IIT Roorkee Transfers Advanced Test Stand Technology for Measuring Flammable Liquid Burning Rates to Swan Environmental Pvt. Ltd.

IIT Roorkee has transferred a novel test stand technology for accurately measuring the burning rates of flammable liquids to Swan Environmental Pvt. Ltd., supporting enhanced industrial fire safety.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee IIT Roorkee has successfully transferred an innovative technology titled A Novel Test Stand and Method to Measure the Burning Rate of Flammable Liquids to Swan Environmental Pvt. Ltd., a Hyderabad based company known for its environmental monitoring and safety solutions.

Developed by Prof K. B. Mishra and Mr Ankit Sharma of IIT Roorkee, this new test stand provides an improved system for accurately determining the maximum burning rates of flammable liquids. The technology ensures that realistic boundary conditions are maintained during testing, allowing burning behaviour to be measured as it would occur in real sized storage tanks. The system is expected to support industries in defining correct safety distances from fires and reducing risks to people, property and infrastructure.

Prof K. B. Mishra stated that the invention was developed to address a long standing need for accurate measurement of burning behaviour of flammable liquids and gases under realistic conditions. He added that the test stand will support authorities and industries in establishing safer operational protocols and strengthening fire safety engineering.

Mr Vijay Kumar Chadalavada, Managing Director of Swan Environmental Pvt. Ltd., expressed that the organisation is pleased to collaborate with IIT Roorkee for this advanced testing technology. He noted that the invention aligns with Swan’s mission of delivering high quality environmental and safety solutions and will enhance its industrial safety and hazard assessment capabilities.

Prof Vivek Kumar Malik, Dean Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy at IIT Roorkee, highlighted that this technology transfer demonstrates the institute’s commitment to bridging academic research with industry implementation. He emphasised that innovations like this help strengthen safety and sustainability practices across sectors.

Prof K. K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, remarked that the institution continues to contribute to India’s innovation ecosystem through impactful technologies designed to address real world challenges. He stated that collaborations of this nature reinforce the institute’s focus on translational research and strong industry academia partnerships.
