IIT Mandi Convocation 2026, 643 Students Awarded Degrees

At its 14th Convocation, IIT Mandi made history by awarding degrees to 643 students at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.

June 20, 2026; Mandi: The 14th Convocation for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi was held in the beautiful North Campus in the Kamand Valley. IIT Mandi has quickly paved the way for IITs in the Western Himalayas. The IITs of Mandi’s goal is to be a center for advanced technology and to build the nation.

This year’s total number of degree recipients is 643, which includes 63 PhD’s, 259 Master’s, and 321 Bachelor’s.

The ceremony further illustrates IIT Mandi’s commitment to serving the nation through the cultivation of high-quality research and innovative education. This in turn provides a high level of leadership for the nation’s youth, as many of its graduates take on leadership roles once they graduate.

Mr. B.K. Goenka, Founder of Welspun World, was the Chief Guest. IIT Madras’s Director, Prof. V. Kamakoti, and IIT Delhi’s Director, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, were the Guests of Honour. The ceremony’s Chair was Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon, PVSM, UYSM, YSM, VSM, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Mandi.

Mr. B.K. Goenka, Chief Guest and Founder of Welspun World, said the following during the ceremonies: "As you graduate and enter the world, I wish you all joy, originality, and courage. This generation is entering the world as AI becomes more widespread. As such, be original. Have the courage to adapt and learn from your mistakes. The world has access to knowledge at the touch of a button, and the only way to rise above to the challenges you will face is to be resilient in the application of that knowledge. Never forget that your time is India's time and the changes you make to the nation will be because of your passion, commitment, and creativity."

 IIT Mandi’s Professor and Director, Laxmidhar Behera, said the following while congratulating the graduates.

"I hope our graduates, as they step into this new phase, continue to keep the creativity, knowledge, and determination to support the new Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Innovation and creativity as solutions to the challenges we face are of great meaning to society. Research, innovation, and an education of the future are the pillars of the IIT Mandi's commitment to excellence. IIT Mandi is also the first IIT to offer B. Tech programs in Quantum Science and Engineering, as well as B. Tech programs in Agricultural Engineering with Data Analytics and Chemical Engineering with Data Analytics. Being from the graduating class of 2026, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the batch and wish them success in their endeavors toward developing our country.

Celebrating Academic Success

This year's Convocation was especially significant as it marked the graduation of a record high 321 BTech students from IIT Mandi. The event also held significance for the Institute.

Among the many highlights of the Convocation event was the award of the President of India Gold Medal and the Institute Gold Medal for B.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering) To Mr. Vayun Goel.

The influence of IIT Mandi can be seen during the Convocation event in the various fields of engineering sciences, management, artificial intelligence and data sciences, sustainability, health technologies, and advanced manufacturing.

Celebrating Achievement and Leadership

There are several medals and awards that celebrate excellence in academics and research activities.

  • The President of India Gold Medal and the Institute Gold Medal in B.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering) were awarded to Vayun Goel for his outstanding achievements in both academics and in extracurricular activities.
  • The Director’s Gold Medal was awarded to Sukhvansh Jain for his outstanding achievements in academics and his contributions to leadership and development.
  • Sneha Chandna was awarded the Institute Gold Medal in B.Tech. (Bioengineering) and Khushi Rewar was awarded the Institute Gold Medal in B.Tech. (Civil Engineering).
  • The other awardees of the Institute Gold Medal (Undergraduate Programmes) were Bipanjit Singh in B.Tech. (Data Science and Engineering), Akshar Agrawal in B.Tech. (Electrical Engineering), Aridaman Singh Chauhan in B.Tech. (Engineering Physics), and Pranjal Vats in B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering).
  • For her excellence in both academics and co-curricular activities, Archita was awarded the Rani Gonsalves Memorial Medal.
  • The NBCC Awards were presented to Khushi Rewar, Ojaswi Hemant Choudhary, and Niharika Chauhan for their excellence in Civil Engineering.
  • In recognition of their creative endeavors and enterprising spirit, the Institute Innovation Silver Medal was awarded to Ananya Rai and Virani Devendrabhai Dineshbhai.
  • The Kiran Bala Arora Memorial Award was received by Ekansh Verma.
  • The following received the Institute Gold Medal as the top postgraduate students: Sneha Vijayan (M.A. Development Studies), Khushi Garg (MBA Data Science and Artificial Intelligence), Kashish Chaudhary (M.Sc. Applied Mathematics), Preeti (M.Sc. Chemistry), Manav Gupta (M.Sc. Physics), Chikirsha Gulati (M.Tech. Biotechnology), Aayush Thakur (M.Tech. Power Electronics and Drives), and Adarsh Arya (M.Tech. Structural Engineering).

A distinguishing feature of the Convocation was the acknowledgement of outstanding accomplishments in every field of scholarship, invention, leadership, and research. This is a further indication of IIT Mandi’s determination to foster talent.

The 14th Convocation ceremony showcased the spirit of IIT Mandi for promoting interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship, innovations, and social impact.
