GATE 2027 Registration Delayed Again: IIT Madras Says Application Window to Open Soon
New Delhi: Candidates preparing for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will have to wait a little longer to submit their applications as the registration process has been delayed again. IIT Madras, the organising institute for GATE 2027, has not yet activated the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
The GATE 2027 official website currently lists the opening of GOAPS registration as “TBA” and states that the application process will “start soon.” However, no new date has been announced so far.
The registration was originally scheduled to begin on August 14, 2026. IIT Madras subsequently postponed the opening to August 27, but the application portal remained inactive on the revised date as well.
GATE 2027 Registration: Revised Deadlines
Although the registration start date has been deferred, IIT Madras has provided revised deadlines for candidates.
- Regular registration without late fee: September 27, 2026
- Registration with late fee: October 5, 2026
- Application rectification window: October 14 to October 21, 2026
Candidates should note that the registration start date is still awaited and should regularly check the official GATE 2027 portal for the latest announcement.
DigiLocker Verification Introduced for GATE 2027
GATE 2027 has introduced DigiLocker-based verification as part of the registration process. According to the information available on the GATE website, registration through DigiLocker will be mandatory for Indian nationals.
Candidates are therefore advised to create a verified DigiLocker account or ensure that their existing account is updated and ready before the application window opens.
The new verification mechanism is aimed at streamlining the authentication process during registration.
GATE 2027 Introduces Robotics and Automation Paper
Another major change for GATE 2027 is the introduction of a new Robotics and Automation test paper.
With the addition of the new paper, GATE 2027 will offer 30 test papers in total. Candidates planning to appear for the examination should check the eligibility conditions, paper combinations and syllabus before selecting their test paper.
GATE 2027 Exam Dates
Despite the delay in registration, the examination schedule announced for GATE 2027 remains as follows:
- February 6, 2027
- February 7, 2027
- February 13, 2027
- February 14, 2027
- February 20, 2027
- February 21, 2027
The GATE 2027 result is scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.
Candidates should keep checking the official website in case there are further changes to the examination or application schedule.
Why GATE 2027 Is Important
GATE is a national-level examination used to assess candidates' understanding of subjects in engineering, technology, science, architecture and related disciplines.
A valid GATE score can be used by eligible candidates for admission to postgraduate programmes, including MTech and other master's and doctoral programmes, at participating institutes.
GATE scores are also considered by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) as part of their recruitment processes, subject to the requirements of individual organisations.
What Candidates Should Do While Waiting for Registration
Candidates can use this period to complete the preparations required for the online application.
They should:
- Create or update their verified DigiLocker account.
- Keep a valid email ID and mobile number ready.
- Check the GATE 2027 eligibility requirements.
- Decide which test paper they intend to appear for.
- Keep required academic and identification documents available.
- Review the GATE 2027 syllabus and examination pattern.
