IIT Kanpur, DBRAU Agra to Launch Hindi Cybersecurity Programme for 3 Lakh Students
The C3iHub at IIT Kanpur has partnered with Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University (DBRAU), Agra, and the Vivekanand Incubation Foundation (VIF) to launch an online vocational programme in cybersecurity for students across DBRAU's affiliated institutions.
The programme is expected to reach more than 3 lakh students across 570-plus colleges affiliated with the university. Delivered entirely in Hindi, the initiative aims to make cybersecurity education more accessible to students from semi-urban and rural areas who may face language barriers when accessing technical courses in English.
A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof Surendra Baswana, Programme Director at C3iHub and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur; Prof Sanjay Chaudhary, Director, IQAC and VIF, DBRAU; and Prof Anil Gupta, Director, UCC, DBRAU Agra.
What Will the Cybersecurity Programme Cover?
The course will introduce students to a range of cybersecurity and online safety issues relevant to their academic, professional and personal lives. Topics will include:
-
Cybercrime and cyber hygiene
-
Social media threats
-
Identity theft
-
Personal data leaks
-
Online safety for women and children
-
Dark web
-
Cyber terrorism
-
Illegal online activities
The programme will combine theoretical learning with practical exposure through quizzes, workshops, feedback mechanisms and customised virtual labs. The virtual labs are intended to give students hands-on exposure to real-world cybersecurity situations.
Cybersecurity Counselling Cell to Be Set Up
As part of the partnership, DBRAU will establish a dedicated Cybersecurity Counselling Cell (CCC). The cell will help students understand cyber threats, prevent cybercrime incidents and provide guidance and support related to online safety.
The initiative is designed not only to teach technical concepts but also to develop everyday digital safety skills among students who increasingly rely on online platforms for education, communication, financial transactions and professional activities.
Role of IIT Kanpur, DBRAU and VIF
Under the partnership, C3iHub, IIT Kanpur will design and deliver the cybersecurity curriculum by drawing on its expertise in cybersecurity research and training.
Vivekanand Incubation Foundation will provide the administrative and technical infrastructure required to deliver the programme to students at scale.
DBRAU will facilitate implementation across its extensive network of affiliated institutions and establish the Cybersecurity Counselling Cell to support students.
Cybersecurity as a Basic Life Skill
Prof Ashu Rani, Vice Chancellor of DBRAU, said the university's reach across more than 570 colleges brings with it a responsibility to prepare students for the digital challenges they may encounter in their professional and personal lives.
She emphasised that cybersecurity should be treated as a basic life skill, rather than a subject restricted to engineering or computer science students.
The partnership is expected to broaden access to cybersecurity education by combining IIT Kanpur's technical expertise with DBRAU's extensive student network and Hindi-language delivery.
