IIT Kanpur to Train Indian Army in Advanced Cyber Defence

IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub will train Army Central Command in advanced cyber defence under a new MoU, strengthening digital readiness against evolving cyber threats.

Kanpur : The Indian Army’s Central Command will soon receive specialised cybersecurity training from IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration aims to strengthen the Army’s digital defence capabilities and equip personnel to counter rapidly evolving cyber threats.

The partnership establishes a structured framework that brings Army units and IIT Kanpur into a closer digital alliance, ensuring soldiers receive advanced training to bolster operational readiness in the cyber domain.

Two Dedicated Cyber Defence Training Modules

Under the MoU, C3iHub — IIT Kanpur’s cybersecurity research and innovation centre — will deliver two intensive three-month training modules. These modules will focus on:

  • Core cyber defence techniques
  • Modern digital security tools
  • Threat identification and mitigation
  • Exposure to international cybersecurity frameworks
  • Hands-on training in detecting and neutralising cyber intrusions

The initiative aims to strengthen the Army’s posture across sensitive operational zones, ensuring personnel are fully equipped to respond to digital threats with confidence.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Officials

The agreement was formalised in the presence of Lt Gen Naveen Sachdeva, Chief of Staff, HQ Surya Command, and Professor Somitra Sanadhya, Programme Director, C3iHub.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Tanima Hajra, CEO of C3iHub, on behalf of IIT Kanpur.

Professor Sanadhya emphasised the significance of the partnership, stating that the collaboration reflects C3iHub’s mission of transforming cutting-edge cybersecurity research into real-world capabilities that directly contribute to national defence.

Strengthening the Army’s Digital Readiness

The training programme will expose Army units to the latest cyber defence tools and global best practices that help assess, identify and counter digital attacks. It also supports the Army’s broader transition toward integrated warfare models, where digital capabilities complement traditional military skills.

The Central Command, which covers several strategically important states, is expected to gain substantial operational advantages from the upgraded cyber defence preparedness.

The initiative marks a major step forward in modernising the Army’s cyber capabilities and reinforces the critical importance of continuous skill development in an era where digital warfare is becoming increasingly sophisticated.
