IIT Guwahati 28th Convocation 2026, 2,266 Degrees, ANRF CEO to Inspire Graduates

On July 12, 2026, the 28th Convocation of IIT Guwahati will be held and will witness four gold medals and a total of 2,266 degrees being awarded. With over 26,790 alumni having graduated since its inception, IIT Guwahati celebrates a significant accomplishment. ANRF CEO Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman will be the chief guest.

Guwahati, July 10: IIT Guwahati will conduct its 28th Convocation on Sunday, July 12, 2026, which will see 2,266 students being conferred degrees and will have as the Chief Guest Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, Chief Executive Officer, Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

Since the first IIT Guwahati Convocation, which was in 1999, and had 63 graduates, IIT Guwahati’s growth has established it among the premier technical institutes in India. In the last 27 years, over 26,790 students have graduated from IIT Guwahati.

 

All Graduates Convey IIT Guwahati's Growth

The growth of the institute is reflected in the growth of engineering, research and innovation, and in the sectors in which IIT Guwahati graduates work. This Convocation will see IIT Guwahati produce yet another batch of graduates, researchers, and professionals in various sectors, including industry and academia.

 

Director Anticipates Contribution of Graduates in Nation Building

Before the Convocation, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, expressed the view that the 28th Convocation indicates the growing reach of the institute in India, and the graduates are likely to contribute to the disciplines of science and technology, and to other sectors of the economy, in the nation-building efforts.

 

IIT Guwahati Will Award 4 Gold Medals

In addition to the award of degrees and honors, IIT Guwahati will present the following four Gold Medals:

  • President's Gold Medal
  • Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal
  • Gold Medal (Undergraduate) Governor of Assa
  • Gold Medal (Postgraduate) Governor of Assam

These awards identify outstanding students during their time at the institute and recognize their academic achievement and excellence as students graduating.

 

Outstanding Growth

The figures clearly demonstrate the remarkable expansion IIT Guwahati has experienced. From graduating only 63 students in 1999 during its first convocation, it now has more than 26790 alumni, and it is one of the best places in India for higher education and research.
