What is the IIT Gandhinagar Visiting Student Programme?

Under the Visiting Student Programme, eligible students from recognised institutions can spend part of their academic programme at IIT Gandhinagar.

A visiting student may:

  • Take courses at IIT Gandhinagar.

  • Carry out research.

  • Take courses for credit or otherwise.

  • Use other academic facilities of the institute.

  • Explore courses across different disciplines.

However, credits earned as a visiting student cannot be applied towards any degree programme at IIT Gandhinagar at any time.

IIT Gandhinagar encourages interdisciplinarity, allowing visiting students to select courses from various academic disciplines.

Eligibility for Visiting Students

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • They should be officially enrolled in a recognised institute or university in India or abroad.

  • They should be officially sponsored by their parent institute or university to complete part of their academic requirements at IIT Gandhinagar.

  • Their academic record should indicate a good likelihood of benefiting from the period of study at IIT Gandhinagar.

Course Registration Norms

The number of courses that students can register for depends on their academic level.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate visiting students are required to register for a minimum of 3 to 4 courses per semester.

The total number of courses should not exceed six courses per semester.

Postgraduate Students

Postgraduate visiting students are required to register for a minimum of three courses per semester.

The total number of courses should not exceed five courses per semester.

Students can select courses from different disciplines in accordance with the interdisciplinary approach encouraged by IIT Gandhinagar.

Visiting Students Programme – Part Time

IIT Gandhinagar also invites applications for its Part-Time Visiting Students Programme.

Students, scientists and engineers from other institutes, universities, industries and research laboratories can apply to register for one or two courses at IIT Gandhinagar while continuing their other academic or professional activities at their parent organisation.

Part-time visiting students may also carry out research or use other academic facilities of the institute.

Eligibility for Part-Time Visiting Students

Applicants should have completed one of the following degrees:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • Master's degree in Sciences

  • Master's degree in Humanities and Social Sciences

Unlike full-time visiting students, part-time students can register for fewer than three courses.

Fees for IIT Gandhinagar Visiting Students

The programme has separate fee structures for undergraduate and postgraduate visiting students.

Undergraduate Visiting Students

  • Tuition fee: ₹1,00,000 per semester

  • Other charges: Approximately ₹54,860 per semester

  • Other charges include housing, mess, laundry and related facilities.

  • Refundable security deposit: ₹10,400

Postgraduate Visiting Students

  • Tuition fee: ₹50,000 per semester

  • Other charges: Approximately ₹54,860 per semester

  • Other charges include housing, mess, laundry and related facilities.

  • Refundable security deposit: ₹10,400

Part-Time Visiting Students

Part-time students are required to pay:

₹5,000 per credit

Accommodation is not provided to part-time visiting students.
