IIT Dharwad Researcher Presents India’s Only Selected Study at Superalloy 718 International Symposium

Karnataka .: A researcher from the Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT Dharwad) presented research at the 11th International Symposium on Superalloy 718 and Derivatives, held alongside MS&T 2026 in Pittsburgh, USA, from October 4 to 7, 2026.

Ms. Mallavarapu Ammaji, from IIT Dharwad's EICMD Lab, delivered the presentation, which was reportedly the only research presentation selected from India at the symposium. The work was co-authored with Prof. Satyapriya Gupta and published as a book chapter by Springer.

IIT Dharwad Research Focuses on Inconel 718

The research is titled “Stress Assisted Aging and γ″ → δ Transformation Driven Yield Stress Anomaly and Diminished Ductility in Solution Treated Inconel 718.”

It examines the relationship between stress-assisted ageing, phase transformation and changes in the mechanical properties of solution-treated Inconel 718, a nickel-based superalloy.

The study's focus on yield stress anomalies and reduced ductility contributes to research in materials science, metallurgy and materials engineering.

Research Published as a Springer Book Chapter

The research has been published as a book chapter by Springer, providing an academic publication associated with the international presentation.

Students and researchers interested in materials science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering and advanced alloys can explore the publication to learn more about the research and its findings.

International Research Exposure for IIT Dharwad

Ammaji's participation highlighhts IIT Dharwad's contribution to international research discussions in materials engineering. Presenting the study at a specialised symposium also brings visibility to research conducted at the institute's EICMD Lab.

For students, the development offers an example of how academic research can progress from laboratory investigation to scholarly publication and presentation at international conferences.
