IIT Delhi SATHI Workshop 2026: Apply for Confocal and Super-Resolution Microscopy Training by November 20
New Delhi: Professionals who work with biological samples, imaging tools and sophisticated laboratory equipment will get a chance to acquire practical knowledge about microscopy during an upcoming workshop in the SATHI Foundation, IIT Delhi. An in-person, 3-day training course titled “Fundamentals of Confocal and Super-Resolution Microscopy” will be conducted on November 25-27, 2026 at the IIT Delhi Sonipat Campus.
The course is open to M.Sc. students, PhD scholars, postdoctoral fellows, imaging facility managers, university and college teachers, and microscope users. One can apply till November 20, 2026, as mentioned in the workshop announcement. Unlike a degree programme, the workshop focuses on providing a hands-on experience in microscopy, image acquisition and processing. Additionally, participants will also get an opportunity to explore the IIT Delhi SATHI facility.

What Will You Learn?
The course covers basic and advanced concepts of microscopy to provide an insight into image acquisition and processing techniques. The list of topics to be covered during the workshop includes:
- Fundamentals of light and widefield microscopy
- Confocal microscopy and multichannel imaging
- Three-dimensional imaging using Z-stack
- Spectral imaging and scanning
- Intensity profiling, deconvolution and colocalization
- Microscopy applications in life sciences
- Super-resolution microscopy
- Introduction to structured illumination microscopy (SIM)
- Super-resolution image acquisition and processing
These topics would be of interest to those who work in the domain of life sciences and need to acquire images of biological specimens, compare signals in multichannel images, or analyse a set of microscopy images. Interpreting the acquired image data correctly plays a crucial role in downstream analysis and decision-making. Hence, it is essential for the researcher to learn about image acquisition and post-processing. Moreover, learning the fundamentals of confocal and super-resolution microscopy will also enable the candidate to make an informed choice about the imaging technique.

Why is this Workshop Important for Researchers?
Microscopy plays a critical role in the field of life sciences and related domains. It helps researchers visualise the structures that cannot be seen using the naked eyes. Confocal microscopy allows optical sectioning and 3D imaging. Super-resolution imaging, on the other hand, enables visualising the cellular structures at a higher resolution than traditional light microscopy. For young researchers, getting an opportunity to learn about advanced microscopy techniques could be highly beneficial. It will help them bridge the gap between academic learning and applying that knowledge in a lab. Similarly, for imaging facility managers and experienced researchers, this course can be useful to explore new imaging modalities and learn different approaches to image analysis.
SATHI Foundation is an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. This foundation provides state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure and offers training to researchers to strengthen the research ecosystem in the country. The November workshop is also a part of such initiatives.
