New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, have jointly announced applications for their 2026 intake of the UQ–IITD Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme. This four-year, fully funded programme offers students the opportunity to study and conduct research across both India and Australia, earning a joint PhD degree from two globally reputed institutions.
Registrations for the programme will open on October 30, 2025, and close on January 7, 2026.
Scholarship Benefits
- Selected scholars will receive a comprehensive financial package that includes a monthly living stipend, tuition fee waiver, and relocation assistance.
- At IIT Delhi, students will be offered a monthly stipend of Rs 37,000 during the first year, which increases to Rs 42,000 in the third and fourth years, along with an additional top-up of Rs 10,000 per month.
During their research stay at the University of Queensland in the second year, students will receive an annual stipend of AUD 36,400 (2025 rate), a full tuition fee scholarship, and a relocation allowance of AUD 5,200 to cover travel from Delhi to Brisbane. Participants will also be provided with Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of their stay in Australia.
Eligibility and Application Process
Interested candidates can access detailed eligibility criteria and guidelines on the official IIT Delhi website. The application process comprises five stages:
- Identifying a research project
- Verifying eligibility
- Preparing required documents
- Submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI)
- Completing the full online application
According to the official schedule, the list of shortlisted candidates will be announced between January 21 and March 4, 2026, followed by interviews from April 7 to 16, 2026. Final admission offers will be issued on May 18, 2026, and successful candidates must confirm acceptance by May 29, 2026.
Global Research and Collaboration
The joint PhD initiative enables participants to engage in interdisciplinary, cross-border research under the joint supervision of faculty from both IIT Delhi and UQ. Students will explore critical themes such as sustainable energy, healthcare innovations, advanced technology, and data science.
Upon completion, candidates will be awarded a joint Doctor of Philosophy degree recognized by both institutions, equipping them with global research skills and international academic exposure.
This collaborative programme under the UQ–IITD Research Academy aims to nurture a new generation of researchers capable of addressing some of the world’s most pressing scientific and societal challenges.
