IIT Bombay Engages in Festive Celebrations Marking 77th Independence Day

IIT Bombay celebrated India's 77th Independence Day on August 15, 2023. The event featured flag hoisting, Director Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri's address, student performances, and the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign.

Mumbai: On August 15, 2023, IIT Bombay marked the 77th anniversary of India's Independence Day with a vibrant celebration near the renowned arch that overlooks the Nandan Nilekani Main Building. The event commenced with the raising of the national flag by the esteemed Director of the Institute, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, at 9:30 a.m. Prof. Chaudhuri also took the opportunity to address the gathered audience.

 

During his address, Prof. Chaudhuri extended heartfelt greetings to the entire IIT Bombay community. The institute is presently immersed in the observance of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM),' a tribute to the 75 illustrious years of India's journey as a progressive and sovereign nation. He provided a comprehensive overview of the recent accomplishments and significant milestones achieved by the institute while motivating all attendees to actively contribute to an even more glorious future.

 

The event was attended by numerous members of the institute, including officials, faculty, students, and a sizable contingent of employees. The proceedings were also live-streamed via the institute's official YouTube Channel, ensuring a broader reach. In addition to the official ceremonies, students showcased their talents in a captivating cultural program that added a festive touch to the occasion.

 

Aligning with the spirit of unity and patriotism, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign was embraced by the campus community, with residents displaying the Indian National Flag at their homes. As a gesture of environmental stewardship, members of the NSS (National Service Scheme) distributed tulsi saplings during the celebration. Prof. Chaudhuri and other officials also contributed to this green initiative by planting a selection of saplings on the campus grounds. The campus itself was adorned with resplendent tricolour illuminations, evoking a sense of pride and belonging among all those present.
