Manasvita Workshop: What It Seeks to Achieve

Higher education often marks a new chapter in students’ lives but one that comes with its share of challenges. As a result, academic stress, uncertainty about the future, adjusting to a new social environment and difficulty in meeting institutional and personal expectations can take a toll on a student’s mental well-being. In such a scenario, faculty members and campus authorities can play a crucial role in determining how students face these difficulties.

Manasvita 2026 seeks to build institutional capacity in such matters through the contributions of educators, mental health professionals and experts. Its focus areas of positive mental health and resilience emphasise how higher education institutions can empower students in dealing with campus-related stress while also ensuring that appropriate support is available when needed.

The workshop will also give delegates from various higher education institutions a platform to discuss the role of mental health in student well-being. Through such interactions, the institutions can deliberate on the ways their respective campus environments, academic practices, faculty engagement and other factors affect students’ experiences and mental health. The workshop’s stated objective is to enable inclusive, resilient and student-friendly campuses. Recommendations, discussions and outcomes at the event would need to be verified from an official report if made public.

The Need for Student Mental Health in Higher Education

Student well-being directly impacts the learning environment within institutions. Therefore, it is necessary for colleges and universities to take measures that encourage active participation from students while also providing access to professional mental health support, if required. The former can be achieved through workshops and awareness campaigns regarding mental health while the latter would involve creating an ecosystem that offers affordable and confidential services. Furthermore, a sensitive and understanding attitude from faculty members can go a long way in encouraging students to seek help.

At the centre of the discussion on mental health is the idea of resilience, which involves preparing students to face challenges and setbacks while ensuring there is support available to deal with them. This is significant for higher education institutions since they are responsible for building a safe learning environment conducive to student success.

How Inclusive Campuses Can Support Student Well-being

The focus of Manasvita 2026 on inclusive and student-friendly campuses brings up the question of how far institutions can go to support mental health. In this regard, colleges and universities must ensure that there is accessible and affordable mental health support available on campus, alongside proactive measures such as workshops and seminars. Moreover, student-faculty and peer-to-peer counselling can be valuable resources for students to turn to in case of distress.

The mental health needs of students vary depending on their social, economic and institutional circumstances. Students with disabilities, those struggling to meet academic expectations and ones facing personal challenges at home require specialised support. A uniform strategy to mental health cannot be effective since students have diverse needs and access to resources. The collaborative nature of the Manasvita workshop reflects the complexity of the issue, with mental health professionals and experts present at the event.

Teacher Connect Programme and Institutional Collaboration

Manasvita is being held under the Teacher Connect Programme in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. The participation of more than 120 delegates from 25 higher education institutions across the Eastern Region enables a multi-institutional approach to the discussion. In addition to mental health professionals and experts, representatives from colleges and universities will deliberate on the practical application of mental health support systems.

Regional-level initiatives such as this can offer valuable insight into the ways educators and institutional delegates can collaborate for students’ well-being.
