SHILLONG, INDIA, The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong has officially announced the successful conclusion of its summer placement season for the 17th batch of its Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP), spanning the 2024-2026 academic years. This year's placement season highlighted the institute's enduring reputation as a preferred destination for top-tier recruiters, even as the global market navigated complex macroeconomic challenges. The cohort, comprising 395 students, demonstrated a diverse range of academic backgrounds: 48% from Finance and Commerce, 35% from Engineering, 10% from Pure Sciences, and 7% from Arts and other disciplines.
The placement season saw participation from 102 total recruiters, including 30 organizations that engaged with the institute for the first time. Despite a slight decline in the average stipend to INR 1.9 Lakhs and a maximum stipend of INR 4.6 Lakhs, due to unfavorable economic factors, the session was marked by significant growth in offer volumes across several key domains. Sales and Marketing emerged as the most dominant domain, accounting for approximately 32% of all offers extended. This was followed by the BFSI sector at 21%, General Management at 16%, Consulting at 15%, IT and Analytics at 10%, and Human Resources and Operations at 6%.
Prominent industry leaders and legacy recruiters continued their long-standing partnership with IIM Shillong, including Accenture Strategy, Bain Capability Network, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Microsoft, and Tata Steel. The institute also welcomed a robust group of first-time recruiters, including Bosch, Britannia, Maruti Suzuki, PwC US, and Zomato. Students secured high-impact roles in diverse functional areas, including Investment Banking, Equity Research, Digital Consulting, Product Management, and Growth Strategy. While specific geographic coordinates for every internship were not listed, the report indicates that students are placed with major multinational and national firms operating across key industrial hubs in India.
The achievements of the batch were further underscored by their performance in prestigious corporate competitions. Students from the 17th batch emerged as National Winners in various challenges, including the IDFC FAME 4.0, Steel-a-thon Season XI, and the Sun Tzu Consulting competition.
