IIM Kozhikode Celebrates 31st Foundation Day, Marks 30 Years of Academic Excellence

Kozhikode, August 21, 2026: The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) celebrated its 31st Foundation Day, marking the completion of 30 years of the institute's journey in Kerala.

Established in 1996 as the fifth IIM in India, the institute has grown into a prominent institution for management education, research and leadership development. The Foundation Day programme reflected on IIM Kozhikode's three-decade journey and its aspirations for the future.

Vice Admiral Alok Ananda, YSM, Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, presided over the celebrations.

Vice Admiral Alok Ananda Highlights Shared Values

Congratulating IIM Kozhikode on the milestone, Vice Admiral Alok Ananda highlighted the contribution of faculty, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders who have helped build the institution over the past three decades.

Drawing a parallel between IIM Kozhikode and the Indian Navy, he said both institutions play an important role in developing talent and preparing individuals to take on greater responsibilities.

He also highlighted values such as excellence, wisdom, character and service to society, noting IIM Kozhikode's evolution despite the geographical challenges associated with its location.

Director Reflects on 30-Year Journey

Addressing the IIM Kozhikode community, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee congratulated the faculty, staff, students, alumni and stakeholders who have contributed to the institute's growth.

He described the 30-year milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the institute's achievements while preparing for its next phase of development.

He also reaffirmed IIM Kozhikode's commitment to its vision of “Globalizing Indian Thought” and its values of Satyam, Nityam and Purnam, which the institute describes as authenticity, sustainability and fulfilment.

Faculty Share IIM Kozhikode's History

The Foundation Day programme also featured reflections on the institute's evolution since its establishment in 1996.

Prof. Deepa Sethi, Prof. Sudershan Kuntluru and Prof. Surya Prakash Pati shared aspects of IIM Kozhikode's history and highlighted important milestones in its development.

The discussions focused on the institute's growth from its early years to its emergence as one of India's leading management institutions.

Onam Celebrations Add Cultural Touch

The Foundation Day celebrations also included Onam festivities, adding a cultural dimension to the event.

A colourful pookalam depicting IIM Kozhikode's journey from 1996 to 2026 was among the highlights. The artwork represented the institute's milestones, people and achievements over the past 30 years.

The celebrations concluded with a renewed focus on IIM Kozhikode's future role in management education, research and nation building, while continuing its commitment to the vision of Globalizing Indian Thought.
