IIM Jammu, Ladakh Administration Sign MoU for Leh Satellite Campus; BBA Programme to Begin in October
Jammu and Kashmir: A new management-educational opportunity is coming to Ladakh. The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM Jammu) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish an IIM Jammu Satellite Campus in Leh, which would make the provision of undergraduate management education available in the Union Territory. The MoU was signed on September 25, 2026, in the presence of the Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
The program is slated to start with a four-year BBA (Hons.) programme for the 2026–30 batch. IIM Jammu's official admission policy suggests that the batch size is likely to be around 60 students, whereas the institute's academic calendar says that the programme will take place in its Leh and Jammu campuses during different periods of the academic year.
IIM Jammu Leh Campus to Offer Four-Year BBA Programme
The first academic offering at Leah campus is set to include the BBA (Hons.) programme. Admission to the programme will take into account scores from JIPMAT 2026, CUET 2026 General Aptitude Test or JEE Main 2026, in conjunction with the student's Class 10 and 12 academic records and gender diversity. According to IIM Jammu's admission policy, the entrance-test percentile counts for 65%, whereas Class 10, Class 12 marks and gender diversity are respectively attributed 15%, 15% and 5%.
Candidates should have passed Class 12 in 2024, 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2026, and should have passed Class 10 in 2022 or later. The minimum requirement is 60% in both Class 10 and 12, with a 55% threshold for candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories.
Classes to Begin at Leh in October 2026
While some early stories suggested the programme was to start in October, IIM Jammu's official academic calendar is the source of more precise information. It states the onboarding at the Leh campus on October 23, 2026, registration on October 25, inauguration and orientation on October 26, and commencement of Semester I classes at Leh on October 27, 2026.
The calendar reflects the distinctive geographical and climatic conditions under which the programme will operate. The students are scheduled to shift from Leah to the Jammu campus on November 27, 2026, during the winter and return to Leah in April 2027 for the summer semester. This makes the new programme different from a standard single-campus undergraduate course. The students will experience both the Leah and Jammu campuses as part of the academic calendar.
Around 60 Seats Planned for First Batch
IIM Jammu's official admission policy suggests that the batch size is likely to be around 60 students. The institute will apply the Government of India's reservation framework, which covers SC, ST, NC-OBC, EWS and PwD candidates.
The development has attracted a lot of prospective students. Officials said in the reports that around 600 candidates expressed interest for the 60 available seats.
Why the Leah Campus Matters for Students
The satellite campus is intended to bring management education closer to students in Leah who may otherwise need to relocate outside the Union Territory for specialized higher education. The Ladakh administration has identified travel, accommodation and other costs associated with studying outside the region as hindrances to access to higher education.
For students from remote areas, therefore, the significance of the campus is not just another BBA option. Its location changes the geography of access to management education.
The initiative also reflects the earlier engagement of IIM Jammu with Ladakh. The institute previously worked with the University of Ladakh for establishing a transit off-campus arrangement in Leah and worked together in areas such as academic development, entrepreneurship, executive education, skill development and research.
