IIM Calcutta hosts the 6th Arijit Mukherji Memorial Lecture and 32nd ILS

Dr. Nachiket Mor, Visiting Scientist of The Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health addressed the students on the topic of "Reimagining India's Health Systems"

 

Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta organized the sixth edition of The Professor Arijit Mukherjee Memorial Lecture and 32nd Institute’s Lecture Series (ILS) on 20th October. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Nachiket Mor, Visiting Scientist of The Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health. He addressed the students on the topic of "Reimagining India's Health Systems". 
The event started with an address by Prof. Manish Thakur, Dean (NIER), IIM Calcutta where he described Late Prof. Arijit Mukherjee as a prolific scholar who was widely recognized in the field of experimental economics. Born in Calcutta, he studied at St Xavier’s School and at St. Xaviers College and completed his PhD in the USA. The first lecture of AMML took place in 2016 and has had in the past notable speakers - Nobel laureate Professor Mohd Yunus, Mr. Madhusudan Gopalan, MD & CEO of P&G India, the then Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India - Mr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian and Mr. Shiv Shivakumar, Group Executive President- Corporate Strategy & Business Development - Aditya Birla Group.
Prof. Uttam K Sarkar, Director, IIM Calcutta enthusiastically welcomed Dr. Nachiket Mor. He introduced him as an acclaimed academician and thought leader. Prof Sarkar spoke highly about his contribution to the academic and in society and expressed his gratitude to him for sharing his insights with our audience.
Dr. Nachiket Mor started his speech by remembering the late Professor Arijit Mukherji. He spoke about the current challenges in our health infrastructure and how traditional methods of funding and centralized health care solutions are proving to be inadequate and ineffective. He also spoke about Innovations across the globe to solve this issue and the funding, regulatory and quality concerns of implementation of a completely new format of health service delivery which tackles the issues of 21st century..
The lecture was followed by an enthusiastic Q&A from students. The event came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dean (Academic) Professor Bhaskar Chakrabarti.
