IIM Ahmedabad to Establish Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomes MoU for Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence at IIM Ahmedabad, calling it a major step towards making India a global AI superpower.

New Delhi / Ahmedabad: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday expressed delight over the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A). The MoU was exchanged in the lead-up to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the Minister said that the establishment of the AI school reflects the concrete steps being taken by Bharat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to emerge as a global AI superpower. He noted that artificial intelligence will act as a key enabler in powering people, progress, and the planet.

Emphasising India’s approach to AI development, Pradhan stated that India’s leadership in artificial intelligence will not be driven by technology alone, but by the strength of its institutions and human capital. He added that responsible and inclusive AI growth is essential for creating long-term global impact.

The Union Minister lauded Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, a distinguished alumna of IIM Ahmedabad, and her husband Ranjan Tandon for their visionary philanthropic contribution. The school will be established with an endowment fund of ₹100 crore, marking one of the significant alumni-led initiatives in higher education.

Calling it a model of alumni giving back to their alma mater, Pradhan said the initiative sets a strong precedent for strengthening India’s academic and research ecosystem. He expressed confidence that the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence will play a pivotal role in enhancing India’s AI capabilities, democratising access to AI, generating employment for the global AI economy, and leveraging technology for social good.

The upcoming AI school is expected to contribute significantly to research, innovation, and talent development, aligning with India’s broader vision of ethical, inclusive, and globally impactful AI leadership.
