Hyderabad : The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) held its 24th convocation on 12 July 2025, conferring degrees on 529 students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.
Among the awardees, Vineeth Bhat, a B.Tech (Honours) student in Computer Science and Engineering, received the prestigious IIITH Gold Medal for his stellar academic performance. The Best All-Rounder Award was presented to Revanth Kumar Gundam, a dual-degree graduate in Computer Science and Computational Linguistics, in recognition of his excellence in academics, extracurricular activities, and contributions to campus life. Pradeep Kumar Pal, Ph.D. in Computational Natural Sciences, was honored with the Banyan Award for his consistent voluntary efforts supporting student affairs.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. P J Narayanan, Director of IIITH, congratulated the graduates and urged them to pursue their careers with creativity, societal responsibility, and integrity. He also announced that he will be stepping down from his role as Director after more than 12 years of leadership and will continue as a faculty member at the institute.
He will be succeeded by Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla from IIT Kanpur, who will assume the role of Director this August. An IEEE Fellow and a prominent academic in the fields of cybersecurity, formal methods, and embedded systems, Prof. Shukla is a recipient of several prestigious honors, including the US PECASE Award and the Humboldt Bessel Award. He formerly taught at Virginia Tech and led the C3i Centre for cybersecurity at IIT Kanpur.
In his address, Prof. Shukla said, “I am extremely honoured and excited that IIIT Hyderabad is entrusting me with the responsibility of their next leader... I see this as my task for the next several years to lead the institute with the cooperation of all stakeholders to newer heights.”
Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of the Governing Council of IIIT-H, welcomed the leadership transition and said the institute is poised to take on greater national challenges under Prof. Shukla’s direction.
The chief guest, Ms. Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog and former president of Nasscom, congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Academic Year Highlights:

- 128 companies registered for placements, with 75 conducting interviews.
- 8 new faculty members joined the institute, with 23 adjunct faculty contributing from industry and academia.
- Research output included approximately 610 publications in top-tier journals and conferences during the 2024–25 academic year.
- 41 Ph.D. students currently hold competitive fellowships from prestigious organizations such as DST, TCS, Microsoft, Google, UGC, CSIR, and others.
- Executive education programs at IIITH, delivered in hybrid mode, have trained over 4,500 professionals to date. These include:
- 24 batches in AI & ML
- 10 batches in Blockchain & Distributed Ledger Technologies
- 7 batches in Software Engineering for Data Science
The institute now boasts 7,756 alumni, who have collectively raised ₹4.83 crores since 2006 to support students through a pay-it-forward initiative. So far, 73 students have benefited, with 40 already giving back, and 11 currently receiving aid.
