What All Students Should Now Know About the Recently Launched IGNOU July 2026 Admissions
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has opened admissions and re-registrations for the July 2026 academic session, offering millions of distance learners in India the opportunity to enrol or continue their undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online classes.
For already enrolled learners, re-registration has started on the 6 th of May 2026 via the official Samarth portal, ignou.samarth.edu.in. The last date for completing the re-registration is the 30 th of June, 2026. As for the already enrolled learners who miss the mentioned deadline, a late submission is allowed, but they will be charged a late fee of ₹ 200 in addition to the standard re-registration fee of ₹ 300, as mentioned in the article published on Careers360 on the 6 th of May, 2026.
Admissions for the July 2026 session are also currently open. Applications are to be submitted on the Samarth portal ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in, and the last date to apply is the 15 th of July, 2026. The application fees for all programs are ₹ 300 and are to be paid via UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking.
With more than 3 million enrolled students, IGNOU is the world's largest distance learning university. As for the July session, it is one of the two academic admission cycles.
List of Courses, Requirements, and DEB ID
The July 2026 sessions include courses for over 325 programmes, including BA, BBA, BCA, BCom, BSc, MA, MBA, MCom, MCA, MSW, MAJMC, BEd, BLIS, MLIS, PG Diplomas, PG Certificates, and PhD programmes. These are available in 21 Schools of Study at IGNOU, designed for working individuals, homemakers, and learners, providing them with the necessary flexibility in learning.
Most of the undergraduate programmes require students to have completed Class 12 from a recognised board. Postgraduate programmes require students to have completed their bachelor's from a recognised university with at least 50 per cent marks. More specialised programmes such as BEd, PhD, and Post Basic BSc Nursing require students to have cleared an entrance examination. The other courses are directly admitted on merit.
The Distance Education Bureau Identification (DEB ID) and the Academic Bank of Credits (APAAR ID) are mandatory requirements for all new applicants. The Distance Education Bureau Identification (DEB ID) has been mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for all persons who wish to pursue Open and Distance Learning (ODL) or online courses. Without the DEB ID, qualifications will not be valid for employment in government positions or for further studies. The APAAR ID is a National Academic ID that stores individual academic credits. Hence, before applying online, ensure you create these two IDs. The DEB ID can be created through the UGC's Distance Education Bureau portal at deb.ugc.ac.in, and the APAAR ID can be created via DigiLocker.
