IGKV Paper Leak: Professor, 5 Students Arrested After Sealed Paper Captured With Camera

An examination paper leak from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur, has led to the arrest of a professor, as well as five students. This leak has shown how advanced some students and officials have become in skirting the system to acquire sealed question papers.

The leak has been reported from the BSc. Ag. Second-year Entomology paper, scheduled to be held on August 20, 2026 from 10 AM to 1 PM, at 28 Agriculture Colleges affiliated to IGKV. The paper leak has been reported to have happened well before the scheduled time of the examination and the paper has been cancelled by the University.

How Was the IGKV Question Paper Leaked?

According to the Police, Yogesh Sonkesariya, a professor in a private Agriculture college in Durg, was responsible for collecting examination papers and submitting answer sheets to the University. According to the Police, Sonkesariya collected the papers for the respective examinations on August 17, and most of the papers remained at his college, but he took the sealed envelope of the Entomology paper.

Investigators state that he then made a small hole in the envelope using a needle and inserted a small endoscope camera to capture the paper without breaking the official seal. Police reportedly stated that the camera cost around ₹2,500. The questions were scanned, and then the question paper was reconstructed and sold to students before the exam.

How did Police discover the leak?

While the exam had not begun, the leak appeared. As per the police complaint, the Agriculture College and Research Centre at Kawardha received an email at 8:41 AM on 20 August, with a report of the leak. The said email was also sent to the officials at 8:54 AM. Other students and their representatives also sent messages to the officials when alleged copies of the questions started circulating on WhatsApp. The examination was subsequently cancelled.

The Police formed a team of more than 100 police personnel to investigate the case with the help of the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit, and Telibandha police personnel. The source of the leak was to be identified by investigating the material sent, the screenshots, photos, messages and social media posts.

Six arrests in IGKV paper leak

Six persons were arrested by the police: -

  • Yogesh Sonkesariya – Professor of a private Agriculture college in Durg
  • Ajay Nayak, 20
  • Tridev Patel, 22
  • Nitin Pandey, 22
  • Anuj Minj/Minz, 22
  • Aditya Sahu, 20

Of the six persons arrested, Sonkesariya is being considered as the brain behind the leak. Two other accused are said to be absconding, and the investigation continues.

What Was the Alleged Deal?

Police claim the professor took money and sold the leaked question paper to students. The amounts mentioned by the different sources do not match. PTI and other sources claim the amount was Rs. 11,000, while other sources claim the students bought the leak at Rs. 12,000. In the absence of a conclusive Investigation by the police, EduAdvice should avoid quoting the amount of Rs. 11,000 as the definite answer.

Legal Case Registered

Police have registered a case under the Chhattisgarh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2008 along with Section 316 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita citing criminal breach of trust, in this case. In the interim, the arrested persons should be understood to be under arrest merely at an allegation stage of the investigation and are entitled to the protection of the due process of law.

IGKV Exam Cancelled, Re-Exam Expected

The affected exam is the B.Sc Agriculture 2nd year Entomology examination that was scheduled in all the affiliated colleges. Reports suggest that the university has fixed the exam in the first week of September, though candidates are required to wait for the official notification of the IGKV regarding the exam date, venue and instructions.

Investigation Not Over Yet

The case may not end with the six arrests. The police are looking at the digital evidence to ascertain how far the questions were circulated and how many more persons are possibly involved in this case. Reports have also raised doubts about whether other answer books may have been copied, but those are also being investigated and should not be treated as definite copying without official confirmation.

Why the IGKV Paper Leak Is Significant

This case is different from the other typical paper leak cases because in this case the breach involves not taking and removing the question paper. The police have alleged that the Professor has placed a miniature camera through a small opening in the seal pack, thus enabling the recording of the pack even while remaining sealed.

This method also casts doubts on the custody and control of the examination papers and their physical security. This incident also shows that a physical breach can become an electronic leak in a short span of time due to the circulation of pictures or reconstructions.

Final Thoughts

Police have arrested a professor and five students connected to the IGKV exam leak case as a result of the BSc Agriculture Entomology exam leak. Police claim that an endoscopic camera captures question papers stored in sealed envelopes and that the questioned material was sold and circulated.

Police claim that the case was 'cracked' within 36 hours and that two suspects fled the jurisdiction of police. The active case focuses on digital evidence to establish whether there is a nation-wide distribution network for the leaked papers. Students are eagerly awaiting the next update on the re-scheduling of exams by the university.
