New Delhi, August 27, 2026: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta attended the valedictory ceremony of the ‘Prabodhan’ Induction Programme-2026 at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) on Thursday. The university’s state-of-the-art lecture hall complex was also inaugurated during the programme. Delhi Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood was present on the occasion. The newly inaugurated lecture hall complex is equipped with modern facilities aimed at providing students with a contemporary environment for teaching, interaction and knowledge exchange.
‘Prabodhan’ Marks the Beginning of a New Academic Journey
‘Prabodhan’ means awakening. The induction programme was organised to familiarise new students with the university’s academic environment, institutional culture and opportunities. Along with academic excellence, the programme focused on innovation, leadership, professional development and responsible citizenship. The event also highlighted the expanding opportunities available to women students in technical education, research and emerging technologies.
IGDTUW Students Develop 75 Surveillance Drones
Delhi is placing special emphasis on connecting women students with modern technical education, research and innovation. At IGDTUW, opportunities have been expanded in emerging areas including Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Mathematics and Computing. Under initiatives such as NETRA-NAARI-NETRITVA, students and women police personnel are being trained in emerging technologies such as drone technology and surveillance. As part of this initiative, 75 surveillance drones have been developed and demonstrated for the Delhi Police.
IGDTUW has also received around Rs 8 crore in funding for the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Drone Technology. A Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security is also being established, creating further opportunities for research and innovation. Industry partnerships are contributing to practical learning and employment-oriented skills. With support from the Bajaj Auto Foundation, around Rs 9 crore has been provided for the BEST Centre, which promotes advanced manufacturing, industry-oriented skills and emerging technologies.
IGDTUW Students Secure More Than 1,000 Placement Offers
The growing capabilities of IGDTUW students are also reflected in their placement performance. During the recent placement season, students received more than 1,000 placement offers, with the highest package recorded at Rs 1 crore. These achievements reflect the technical proficiency of students and their preparedness to meet the changing requirements of industry.
During the programme, the ‘IGDTUW Times’ booklet was also released. The publication brings together key initiatives related to the university’s academic achievements, student activities, research and innovation. Students who performed exceptionally well, along with the Best Vice Chancellor Interns, were felicitated during the event.
LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu Encourages Students to Become Innovators
Lieutenant Governor and IGDTUW Chancellor Taranjit Singh Sandhu encouraged students to pursue quality technical education and emerge as innovators and leaders. He appreciated IGDTUW’s efforts to create opportunities for women in technical education and emerging technologies. Addressing students, the Lieutenant Governor said they were not merely preparing for future jobs but preparing to shape the future of India.
He highlighted the potential of emerging technologies to transform sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing and governance. Students, he said, should not limit themselves to using technology but should become creators and innovators capable of shaping the country’s future.
Rekha Gupta: Technology and Knowledge Have No Gender
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said women are increasingly leading in fields including engineering, technology, science, space and defence. She encouraged students to move beyond simply using existing technologies and become builders of AI and new technologies. “Technology, knowledge and experience have no gender,” she said, while urging students to develop curiosity, courage and character.
The Chief Minister called upon students to become job creators rather than merely job seekers. She said the Delhi government aims to ensure that daughters in the capital receive equal opportunities for quality education, modern infrastructure, skill development and advancement of their talent. According to the Chief Minister, institutions such as IGDTUW are creating new opportunities for women in technical fields and contributing to women-led development.
Rs 400-Crore Startup and Incubation Policy Approved
Education Minister Ashish Sood emphasised the importance of technology, skills, innovation and practical learning for students. He highlighted the surveillance drones developed by IGDTUW students for the Delhi Police as an example of how technical knowledge can be converted into solutions for real-world requirements. Sood also encouraged students to develop solutions in areas such as women’s safety, healthcare and green technology.
The Education Minister said the Delhi government is working towards developing an Education City spread across around 160 acres. At the same time, a Rs 400-crore Startup and Incubation Policy has been approved to provide a new platform for students and young entrepreneurs.
Focus on Women in Technology and Innovation
The developments highlighted at the Prabodhan-2026 ceremony underline IGDTUW’s focus on technical education, research, innovation, industry-oriented skills and entrepreneurship. From surveillance drones and cybersecurity to artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced manufacturing, students are being encouraged to engage with emerging technologies and develop solutions for practical challenges.
