New Delhil. ; In a significant update for Chartered Accountancy aspirants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced a revision in the CA Final examination schedule. Starting May 2026, the exam will be conducted twice a year instead of three times.
Under the new structure, CA Final exams will now take place in May and November, replacing the existing cycle of January, May, and September.
January Attempt to Be Discontinued
ICAI has confirmed that the January 2026 session will be the last exam under the current three-attempt system. From that point onward, the January cycle will be removed, and only two attempts per year will remain.
Reason Behind the Change
The decision has been taken after reviewing feedback from students, educators, and industry professionals. Many stakeholders highlighted that frequent exam cycles were making it difficult for candidates to prepare effectively.
By reducing the number of attempts, ICAI aims to create a more balanced and structured examination environment.
What Changes for Students
Under the revised system:
- CA Final exams will be conducted two times annually
- Exam sessions will be held in May and November
- The January attempt will be discontinued after 2026
- January 2026 will be the final exam under the old pattern
Expected Benefits for Aspirants
According to ICAI, the revised schedule is expected to:
- Provide more time for preparation and revision
- Reduce pressure caused by frequent exam cycles
- Offer a more predictable and stable exam calendar
- Help students focus better on conceptual clarity
A Major Shift in CA Examination Structure
This change marks an important shift in the CA Final examination framework. While candidates will now have fewer attempts in a year, the move is expected to enhance the overall quality of preparation and improve exam readiness among aspirants.
Students are advised to plan their preparation strategies accordingly and stay updated with official announcements from ICAI.
