ICAI convocation 2026: 8,964 Newly Qualified CAs Awarded Membership across 23 centres

New Delhi: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) awarded more than 8,964 newly enrolled CAs their membership during the ICAI September 2026 convocation. Simultaneous ceremonies were held at 23 centres across India on 12th September 2026.

The September convocation was held for members awarded by ICAI between May 1st and August 15th 2026. In addition to the membership certificates, the top rank holders of the CA Final May 2026 were given their rank certificates.

ICAI convocation 2026: 8,964 CAs Join Profession

Unlike in previous years, ICAI offered a nationwide induction ceremony by conducting convocation 2026 across 23 centres instead of a single central ceremony. The centres were New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Pune, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Ernakulam, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Guwahati, Ghaziabad, Indore, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ranchi, Raipur, Chandigarh and Ludhiana.

During the ceremonies, members were awarded their Certificates of Membership and officially welcomed into the profession of Chartered Accountancy.

The official ICAI notice confirmed the city-wise arrangement and advised eligible participants to make necessary travel arrangements after receiving their individual communication.

Who was eligible to attend the September 2026 Convocation?

ICAI has said that September convocations are for members registered between 1st May to 15th August 2026. Eligible members will receive an invitation containing venue, time and details of participation from the Members & Students Services Directorate. Rank holders of the May 2026 CA Final examination will also attend the convocation, as they will be receiving their rank certificates.

This eligibility window is important for this convocation because, unlike other convocations, which are annual for all members of ICAI, this convocation focuses on a particular group of newly registered members.

What does an ICAI Membership Certificate Signify?

The CA exam is difficult, but membership in ICAI is the real beginning of the profession. Through the convocation, members of the ICAI formally bestow admission in the profession and present their Membership Certificate to the members.

As per the convocation notification by ICAI, members who are eligible will get their Certificate of Practice (COP). Therefore, the ceremony is not about taking a ceremonial photograph for the young CAs; this ceremony is the formal completion of several years of preparation.

ICAI's Role Beyond the CA Profession

ICAI is a statutory professional body established by the Parliament of India and is responsible for the regulation of chartered accountancy in India. Convocation ceremonies of ICAI welcome newly registered members into the CA profession

Becoming a member of a professional body by means of legislation is how ICAI defines its existence. The latter usually means being a member of the chartered accountancy profession. ICAI organises ceremonies in which members of the profession are inducted in the presence of distinguished guests.

Separate from other expositions of the organisers, ICAI sees the purpose of a convocation as the opportunity to formally bind a professional with the profession and the institution. The 2026 ceremony continues this trend, and the scale of almost 9,000 new members spread out across 23 different centres is undeniably national in its breadth.

For the approximately 9,000 new members, the certificate is only a symbol of the longer, arduous journey which is now undeniably behind them. The next step is not simply passing the CA examination, it is now the journey of a lifetime in fields such as audit, taxation, accounting, financial reporting, consulting, corporate finance and advisory services The ceremony may only last a few hours, but the profession it seeks to honour will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
