IBM Commits to Training 50 Lakh Learners in India by 2030 Through Major AI Skilling Initiative

New Delhi. : India is set to witness one of its largest technology skilling initiatives after IBM announced a plan to train 50 lakh learners across the country by 2030 in advanced digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing.

The initiative is part of IBM’s long-term strategy to support the development of a future-ready workforce and expand access to in-demand digital skills as India’s technology ecosystem continues to grow. The company said the programme will cater to both students and working professionals, with a strong focus on employability and practical, industry-aligned learning.

Training will be delivered through IBM’s global digital education platform, SkillsBuild, which offers free learning pathways, certifications, and project-based modules. The platform is designed to help learners acquire job-relevant skills and transition into technology-driven roles across sectors.

A key component of the India-focused programme is IBM’s collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education. Through this partnership, IBM plans to introduce hands-on learning pathways in artificial intelligence and related emerging technologies across engineering institutions and technical colleges.

The collaboration will also include faculty development programmes, student hackathons, and internship opportunities aimed at strengthening practical exposure and innovation capabilities within academic environments.

IBM’s India commitment forms a significant part of its broader global mission to train 30 million people worldwide by 2030. Company officials said India will represent one of the largest national contributors to this global skilling target.

Education and workforce experts note that demand for professionals skilled in AI systems, data analytics, cybersecurity frameworks, and automation tools has increased sharply, driven by digital transformation across industries. India’s rapid expansion in digital services and technology adoption has further amplified the need for a workforce capable of adapting to evolving technological requirements.

The IBM SkillsBuild programme already operates in multiple Indian states. Under the expanded plan, the company will extend its reach to additional colleges, vocational institutions, and community-level centres, with the goal of ensuring access for learners from diverse regions and economic backgrounds.

As India seeks to strengthen its digital economy and global technology standing, large-scale skilling initiatives such as this will play a critical role in shaping industry-ready talent. IBM’s long-term commitment reflects a growing consensus that sustained investment in skills development will be central to future economic growth and technological leadership.
