HTET 2026 Controversy: JJP Leader Digvijay Chautala Seeks Probe Into Alleged Exam Irregularities
The HTET 2026 has again provoked political and social excitement, with Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) Youth President Digvijay Singh Chautala bringing serious allegations of process and result irregularities in the Examination. Chautala questions the transparency of the process and, in view of the “huge lapses” of the Haryana government, has asked for an Investigation. He explained that the gaps in the process for thousands of candidates aspiring to be teachers were deemed almost irreversible.
In a press conference, Chautala described the irregularities in the application process, the process of the examination, and the process of the result declaration. He asked the government to respond to the issues, and warned that the JJP would approach the Courts if an investigation was not promptly initiated.
What Are the Allegations?
Chautala said that there were multiple irregularities. Some of the allegations are:
- Delays and changes to result announcements.
- Problems with biometric verification.
- Lack of transparency in the result process.
- CCTV footage retention questions.
- Problems regarding examination procedures at certain centres.
The JJP leader said that a result that was earlier issued with biometric verification was given back. In that result, 1,284 candidates were declared successful without the biometric verification, while in the earlier result, that was declared, 1,284 candidates were declared successful with the biometric verification. He posed that the verification of the candidates was not completed, and posed that the examination directives were not preserved. He explained that the examination directives required that the footage be retained.
Concerns Regarding Exam Procedures
Aside from the outcome procedures, Chautala also mentioned complaints concerning the:
- Unsealed question paper packets at some exam centers.
- Exams reportedly going over the allotted time.
- Poor administration regarding the exam procedures.
Only a few weeks ago, opposition leaders raised complaints regarding some of the same issues, including but not limited to: broken seals, mismatched OMR sheets, wrong question papers, and typos during the HTET Level-3 exam, which was held in July.
What is Happening with the HTET?
The HTET exam has been in the spotlight since the Level-3 (PGT) exam, which was held in July of 2026. Senior Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala and other opposition leaders have called for the exam to be canceled due to issues with broken seals, leaks, mismatches in the OMR sheets, and other issues with the exam.
The new statement from the JJP has added to the issues by providing a lack of confidence in the transparency of the new results and in the examination system as a whole.
What Did the HBSE Say?
Earlier, the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) maintained that no papers were leaked and the exam was conducted safely and securely. Board officials have stated that the printing, sealing, and transportation of question papers and the exam itself were elaborate and recorded.
HBSE has also stated that OMR answer sheets are evaluated using the roll numbers of the candidates as opposed to the serial number of the question papers and that the answer sheets of the question papers would be assessed and any genuine technical issues would be taken up through the objection process.
Demand for Independent Investigation
The JJP has brought to the attention of the Haryana Government the need for an impartial investigation into the alleged discrepancies. Chautala asserts that to have confidence restored to the aspirants of recruitment to the teacher profession, an examination system that is fully accountable and completely transparent is a necessity. He has also made it clear that the government’s inadequate response will compel them to seek remedies through the law.

HTET is the qualifying examination for teachers who wish to be hired by the Haryana government. Controversy over the HTET examination will have implications for the thousands of candidates who wish to be recruited to the teaching profession and will adversely affect the recruitment of teachers in the future.
