HPU Recruitment 2026: Assistant Professor Positions Available, Know Vacancies, Eligibility, Salary and Apply

An advertisement has been released by the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, inviting applications for the recruitment of Category-A teaching positions for 26 Assistant Professor positions in the Post Graduate Centre, Regional Centre Dharamshala, and University Institute of Technology.

The recruitment notification was released on the 7th of August 2026. The university will start accepting online applications from the 11th of August 2026 to the 7th of September 2026 at 11: 59 PM through the university recruitment portal.

HPU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Vacancy Details

There are 26 positions in several academic departments.

The notification specifies individual reservation categories against the vacancies, including UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS and various horizontal reservation categories.

Salary: Up to ₹1.82 Lakh

The position of Assistant Professor carries an Academic Level-10 pay of ₹57,700 - ₹1,82,400 under the Pay Matrix. The pay and service conditions will be as per the University’s recruitment rules and provisions.

HPU Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

According to this notification, the minimum qualification, experience and eligibility will be in accordance with the UGC Regulations, 2018, along with AICTE Norms 2019 for UIT posts, and subsequent amendments adopted by the University, for Assistant Professor positions.

The recruitment notice also mentions that candidates should have qualified the UGC-NET, CSIR or a similar UGC accredited eligibility test, viz., SLET/SET or should hold a PhD degree in accordance with the UGC guidelines for the exemption of NET/SET. HPU 2026- Assistant Professor Recruitment- Selection Process

A Screening Committee will be constituted for scrutinizing the applicants. For Category - A posts, the university will adopt the UGC Framework prescribed for screening candidates for interview. Candidates must score at least 50% marks in the interview to be eligible for the selection process. Reservation applicants must score at least 45% marks in the interview. Based on this criterion, candidates will be called for an interview.

 The university intends to invite not more than 25 candidates for an interview against a single vacancy. Additional candidates may be invited for other vacancies prescribed for that category.

Important Dates and Hard Copy Requirement

Candidates are required to complete the Online Form. The notification also indicates that applicants for Assistant Professor must submit a hard copy of the online application along with relevant documents.

Candidates residing in the specified areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Ladakh, Assam, Northeast (except Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim) and some districts of Himachal Pradesh (other than Shimla) are eligible for the hard-copy deadline as given in the notification.

What Candidates Should Keep Ready

All applicants should have their login credentials, submit the required documents, and provide supporting evidence for all claims and qualifications. The university also notes that it requires copies of UGC/CARE-listed publications and journals (wherever applicable) as evidence. In-service applicants are also required to submit a hard copy, as well as have their NOC available for presentation at the interview. The university also states that a deficient application or one that is lacking supporting documents would be out of the possibility.
