Hospital pact worth 107 crore signed by IISc with a bank

:- The MoU covers support to three wings of the Bagchi-Parthasarathy Hospital that includes Cardiology, Radiology and Emergency Medicine

Bengaluru: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HDFC Bank Parivartan where the bank has promised a sum of 107.76 crores to support the three wings of the forthcoming multispeciality hospital in the IISc campus. The MoU covers support to three wings of the Bagchi-Parthasarathy Hospital that includes Cardiology, Radiology and Emergency Medicine.

A statement released by the IISc on Tuesday said that MoU in this connection was signed on July 29. The 832-bed, charitable hospital is coming up with a post graduate medical school and is expected to be in action by the end of 2024. The first batch of MD/PhD students will be admitted in 2025.

With its partnership in place, the Cardiology wing of the hospital is expected to see around 1,83,000 outpatients and 18,300 in-patients between the year 2025 and 2029. And the wing is expected to train at least 20super specialist doctors during that period.

The statement also said that the Radiology wing is expected to benefit 4,28,326 patients in the first five years of its service and train 20 super specialist doctors. Also, the hospital is expected to benefit 56,304 patients and train 50 super specialist doctors in the Emergency Medicine Wing.

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, IISc Director, said that the upcoming hospital and medical school marked a “new frontier of clinical research”.

Ashima Bhat, Group Head of ESG and CSR, HDFC Bank, said the new hospital and medical school would fortify the healthcare needs of the local region and provide it a new generation of physician-scientists.
