Bangalore: Despite repeated requests to the Higher Education Department to resolve the KCET-related issues the department remains unresponsive says the government’s education reforms advisor and PES University Chancellor MR Doreswamy. He requested the state government to resolve the KCET issue at its earliest to avoid inconvenience to the students.

In a news conference on Thursday, he said that most private universities are set to resume classes for first-year undergraduate students and the delay in the KCET process will result in the loss of academic days for those students getting admissions through KCET. “Our university is set to start classes for 2022-23 in a couple of days and we won’t be able to hold up classes for 60% of the students admitted through the test conducted by the university,” he said.

Doreswamy also added that the higher education department was unresponsive despite repeated requests. “It has been decided to conduct classes for 40% of the students joining through KCET,” he said. The parents of the KCET repeaters have urged that the government constitute a committee to resolve their issue, instead of filing a review petition.

The parents said that the government should drop the idea of filing a review petition and constitute an expert committee to resolve the issue in the interest of the students.

“If this issue continues, students will lose an academic year. The minister and the officials should consider the High Court order in the interest of the students and give them justice” said Balaveera Reddy, former chairman of CET. Now the government has decided to file a petition against the recent High Court order asking KEA to redo the ranking list, considering 50% each in 2nd PU and KCET performance for repeaters, the seat allotment process is likely to be delayed further.
