High Literacy Push: Over 4.5 Lakh Adults Appear for FLNAT Assessment in Odisha

The large-scale participation reflects growing community engagement in adult education initiatives. FLNAT serves as a key assessment tool for foundational literacy and numeracy under the ULLAS mission.

ODISHA: More than 4.5 lakh learners from 30 districts of Odisha participated in the Second Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) 2026, held on 15 March 2026 under the ULLAS Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram. The large-scale participation reflects growing community involvement in adult education initiatives and highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen foundational learning among non-literate adults across the state.

The assessment is part of the national programme aimed at achieving universal adult literacy, focusing on basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills. The FLNAT serves as an evaluation mechanism to measure learning outcomes among adult participants enrolled under the ULLAS initiative, which seeks to empower citizens with essential educational competencies and improve their access to social and economic opportunities.

Officials noted that the test represents an important milestone in Odisha’s literacy campaign, demonstrating steady progress in expanding educational outreach beyond traditional schooling. By mobilising learners across districts and encouraging community participation, the programme continues to play a key role in supporting the broader objective of building a more inclusive and literate society.
