Chandigarh: Haryana is set to introduce a 10-day bagless learning programme in 250 PM SHRI government schoolsduring the 2026-27 academic session, giving students an opportunity to learn beyond conventional classroom lessons through field visits, practical activities and exposure to different skills. The initiative has been planned to make school education more practical and experience-based. The state has approved a budget of ₹9.3 crore for the programme, which will particularly focus on students of Class 6.
Students to Learn Outside the Classroom
Under the programme, students will spend 10 days participating in activities that connect their classroom learning with real-world experiences. Instead of carrying regular school bags and spending the entire period in classrooms, students will be introduced to different vocational and practical activities. The programme will include exposure to places such as farms, markets, industries and historical sites. The idea is to help students understand how different skills and occupations work in real life and encourage them to explore areas beyond their regular textbooks.
551 Skill Sectors Identified
The Haryana government has identified 551 skill sectors across the participating PM SHRI schools for the initiative. These sectors include both traditional occupations and newer areas linked to emerging technologies. The programme is therefore intended to expose students to a wider range of career and skill possibilities from an early stage. The initiative will also encourage students to work on practical projects. Class 6 students are expected to prepare three projects as part of the learning programme.
₹9.3 Crore Approved for the Programme
The state has approved ₹9.3 crore for implementing the 10-day bagless learning programme across the 250 PM SHRI schools. A significant part of the allocation will support activities such as transportation and other arrangements required to take students outside the school environment for practical exposure. The programme is part of Haryana's broader effort to move school education towards skill-based and experiential learning, in line with the approach promoted under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Focus on Practical and Vocational Learning
