GSTA Urges UPSC to Postpone November 1 Exam for 828 Principal, Vice-Principal Posts
New Delhi: The Government School Teachers’ Association (GSTA) has urged the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to postpone the recruitment examination for 828 Principal and Vice-Principal posts in the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education. The examination is currently scheduled to be held on November 1, 2026.
In a representation addressed to the UPSC Secretary, the association said that a large number of Delhi Government school teachers have been performing duties as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO supervisors since April, in addition to their regular teaching responsibilities.
GSTA Cites Additional BLO Responsibilities
According to the association, teachers engaged in BLO and related responsibilities have been required to undertake several election-related tasks.
These duties include:
-
Door-to-door verification related to electoral rolls
-
Examination of documents
-
Filling of forms
-
Online entry of details
-
Submission of time-bound reports
The association said that these responsibilities often require teachers to work before and after regular school hours and during holidays.
Teachers' Preparation Time Affected, Says GSTA
GSTA General Secretary Ajay Veer Yadav said that the additional workload has made it difficult for serving teachers to get adequate preparation time for the November 1 recruitment examination.
The association said that a large number of serving Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) and Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) are eligible to apply for the Principal and Vice-Principal positions.
The recruitment examination covers:
-
124 Principal posts
-
704 Vice-Principal posts
-
Total: 828 posts
GSTA Requests Four-to-Six-Week Deferment
The association has requested the UPSC to defer the examination by four to six weeks and announce a revised examination date.
GSTA said its request is not aimed at seeking exemption for teachers from election-related or BLO responsibilities. Instead, the association said it wants teachers performing public duties to have adequate time to prepare for the competitive recruitment examination.
In its representation, the association argued that teachers carrying out election-related responsibilities under government orders should not be disadvantaged in a competitive examination because of those public duties.
Representation Sent to Delhi Government Officials
Copies of the GSTA representation have also been sent to the Delhi Chief Secretary, Chief Electoral Officer, Education Secretary and Director of Education.
The association has sought their intervention regarding the examination schedule.
