Puducherry, The Government of Puducherry, through the Puducherry Examining Authority, has officially released the provisional selection results for the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors of Police following the written competitive examination held on February 22, 2026. This recruitment process aims to fill a total of 70 vacancies for the post of Sub-Inspector of Police, which carries a Level 6 designation in the Pay Matrix. The vacancy distribution includes 31 seats for the Unreserved (UR) category, 11 for Scheduled Castes (SC), 7 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 12 for Most Backward Classes (MBC), 1 for Backward Class Muslims (BCM), 1 for Extremely Backward Classes (EBC), and 7 for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Additionally, a horizontal reservation of 33% is maintained for women across various categories, including 12 for UR, 3 for SC, 2 for OBC, 4 for MBC, and 2 for EWS.
The selection process was strictly governed by the performance in a two-paper written examination, with each paper containing 100 multiple-choice questions. Candidates were awarded 1 mark for every correct response, while a negative marking of 0.25 was applied for every incorrect answer. To be eligible for the merit list, candidates were required to appear in both Paper-I and Paper-II and achieve specific minimum qualifying marks. These benchmarks were set at 30% for UR candidates, 25% for MBC, OBC, EBC, BCM, and EWS candidates, and 20% for SC candidates. The authority noted that certain candidates were excluded from the merit list for failing to appear in both papers or for technical violations, such as disfiguring OMR bar-codes, which led to non-evaluation.
The current results, detailed in Annexure-I and Annexure-II of the official notification, provide a category-wise list of male and female candidates who have been provisionally selected. For instance, in the Unreserved category, Dhinagar M (Roll No. 10666) achieved a top position with a score of 101.5000. Other notable high scorers include Kalpana E (90.7500) and Padmaprya B (89.7500). It is important to emphasise that this selection is provisional and remains subject to the thorough verification of original documents, including educational qualifications, age, nativity, and community certificates. The Police Department of Puducherry will communicate the specific schedule for this certificate verification process at a later date.
Furthermore, a provisional wait list has been prepared and is currently held in a sealed cover by the Puducherry Examining Authority. This list will be utilised should vacancies arise due to candidates failing to appear for verification, non-joining, or resignations within a specific timeframe. In a specific legal instance, the results for a candidate with Roll No. 10126, who appeared under the orders of the Hon'ble C.A.T., Chennai, have also been kept in a sealed cover as per court directives. Candidates are advised that inclusion in the provisional list does not guarantee an appointment until the appointing authority is fully satisfied with the candidate's suitability in all respects.
