The Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, have officially inaugurated the Goa Shiksha Samagam 2026 on Wednesday. This major state level education event took place at Zuari Hall in Lok Bhavan, located in Dona Paula. The program was organized together by the Goa State Council of Educational Research and Training (GSCERT) and the Directorate of Higher Education.
Many important people from the education sector, like school directors, top officers, and teachers, was attending this special event. The main objective behind this summit was to bring all education leaders on one single platform. They gathered to discuss how education system in the state can be improved further. The conference was organized under the theme "Implementation of NEP 2020: Review, Reflections and the Road Ahead".
Reviewing Six Years of National Education Policy Implementation :
During the opening session, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant pointed out that National Education Policy 2020 have completed six years now. He said that old education policy was running in our country for almost 35 years without any major changes. Because of this, students was only learning standard bookish knowledge without getting practical exposure.
The government have taken big steps in last few years so that NEP rules can be applied properly across all institutions. Goa is now standing as a leading state in the whole country when it comes to implementing this new policy. Top experts from big institutes like IIT, NIT, and BITS Pilani was also consulted by the state team to make the implementation plan strong and effective.
New Roadmap for School Curriculum Alignment and Skill Education :
The summit gave special focus on changing the school curriculum so that it matches with modern needs. The Chief Minister said that education should not be only for getting college degrees. Instead of just passing exams, students needs to learn actual life skills and practical knowledge.
According to the new roadmap, career guidance and skill training will start early in schools, right from Class 8 onwards. This will help small children to find their real interest and talent at early stage. The department is planning new subjects that promotes creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. When students learns these skills early, they can easily choose their career path after finishing school studies.
Modern Technology and the Role of Teachers in Classrooms :
Another big topic discussed at the Dona Paula summit was the growing use of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence in education. Many people in education field have fear that AI and computers might replace real classroom teachers in coming days. But the Chief Minister made it very clear that technology can never replace human teachers.
He explained that modern tools are only made to help teachers and upgrade their teaching methods in smart classrooms. Teachers needs to embrace technology so learning becomes simple for every child. The state government will conduct special training programs for primary and higher secondary school teachers so they can use digital tools without facing difficulties.
Addressing Student Leadership and Campus Governance Standards :
The final sessions of the Shiksha Samagam was focusing on student leadership and maintaining order on college campuses. Speaking on campus governance, Chief Minister Sawant mentioned that student movements must stay focused on real education issues. He said that students definitely have full democratic right to raise their voice, but campus discipline must be preserved at all costs.
The education department want college campuses to build positive student leaders who contributes well to society. The policy aims to make students nationalist and culturally connected so they make wise choices for their future. Better coordination between college authorities, local parents, and student unions will be done to ensure smooth governance across all educational campuses in Goa.
