Goa : The Goa government have taken a very big decision for all the students who are doing technical courses. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made a huge announcement regarding this on July 15, 2026. Now, the students who finish their Class 10 and then complete a two-year course from any Industrial Training Institute (ITI) will get a special benefit. The government have decided that these students will now get a Class 12 equivalency certificate directly from the Goa Board. This means their ITI certificate will be equal to a normal Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC). This news have brought a lot of happiness among the student community in Goa because it solve a very old problem. Earlier, ITI students had to face many technical issues if they wanted to study further after their technical training. But now, this new rule will change the full system for them.
How The New Rule Will Work Actually :
Many people are confused about how this new system will work for the students. The education department have cleared the details now. If a student pass their Class 10 board exam from any recognized school, they usually goes to a regular college for Class 11 and Class 12. But many poor or technical-minded students chooses to go to an ITI to learn direct practical skills like electrician, plumber, or mechanic work. Under this new reform, after doing that two-year ITI course, the student does not need to give separate Class 12 exams from the open school or regular board. The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will issue an official equivalency letter to them. This certificate will clearly state that this student have completed education which is totally equal to the standard Class 12 board qualification.
Major Benefits For Higher Education :
This decision is going to help thousands of students who wants to do higher studies in the future. In the old system, if an ITI student wanted to do a regular graduation degree like BA, B.Com, or B.Sc, colleges did not allow them easily. They used to say that ITI is a diploma and not a proper school certificate. Because of this, many smart students had to drop their studies midway or they had to waste two extra years doing regular schooling again. But now, after this July 15 announcement, things have become super easy. Students can use this new equivalency certificate to take direct admission in any regular college or university degree course. This step will save a lot of money and precious time for students who belongs to middle-class families.
Helping Students Get Better Jobs Quickly :
Apart from higher education, this decision will also create a lot of new job opportunities for young people. Many government jobs and private sector vacancies requires a minimum qualification of Class 12 pass out. Previously, even if an ITI student had excellent technical knowledge, they could not apply for these general jobs because they did not have a proper Class 12 marksheet. Now, this problem is completely solved by the Chief Minister. Students can show their ITI marksheets along with the Goa Board equivalency certificate to apply for any job where standard Class 12 is required. This will help them to get good jobs very quickly in both private companies and government departments. The technical skills plus the school certificate will make them very strong candidates.
Implementation And Reaction From Public :
The general public and education experts has welcomed this academic reform with open arms. Parents are very happy because their children will now get double benefits from a single course. They will get practical job skills and a school board certificate at the same time. The Directorate of Technical Education and the Goa Board is already working together to make the process smooth. They are preparing the online portal where eligible students can apply for this certificate very easily. All ITI institutes in Goa have been instructed to inform their current batch about this big change. The government believe that this step will encourage more young students to choose technical education instead of just doing regular book-based studies, which will ultimately reduce unemployment in the state.
