Tripura University to Host 6th International Conference on Tibeto Burman Linguistics

Tripura University will organise the 6th International Conference of the Tibetato-Burman Linguistics Association of Northeast India from 5 to 7 February 2026, bringing together leading linguistics and researchers from India and Abroad.

Agartala -  The Department of Linguistics and Tribal Languages of Tripura University is set to host the 6th International Conference of the Tibeto-Burman Linguistics Association of North East India (ICTiBLANEI-6) from 5 to 7 February 2026 at its Suryamaninagar campus in Agartala.

The international conference aims to provide an academic platform for scholar, researchers and students to exchange ideas and present research in Tibeto-Burban Linguistics, with special reference to the languages of Northeast India. The event is being organized in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. 

The conference will provide a wide range of linguistic themes including phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, historical linguistics, typology, lexicography, anthropological linguistics, language endangerment, field linguistics, corpus and computational linguistics, applied linguistics, and field reports. Special attention will be given to lesser-known and endangered languages of the region.

Renowned linguistics from India and abroad will deliver plannery lectures during the conference, highlighting current trends and future directions in the Tibeto-Burman Linguistic studies. The event is expected to strengthen academic collaboration and promote research on tribal and regional language.

The conference is likely to play an important role in encouraging young researchers and students to engage with language documentation preservation and interdisciplinary linguistic research in Northeast India.
