Glitch in Mumbai University's Exam Results Leaves Students in Limbo

14 Mumbai University IDOL students scored zero in "Literature of Protest" in semester 5 exams. Despite passing semester 6, their postgraduate prospects and jobs are now uncertain.

Mumbai: A startling incident has unfolded at the University of Mumbai's Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), where a baffling error in exam results has left as many as 14 Bachelor of Arts (BA) students in an uncertain situation. In a shocking turn of events, all 14 students received a disheartening blow as they were marked with zero marks in the subject "Literature of Protest" during their semester 5 examinations.

While the University has recently announced the results for semester 6, bringing the academic journey of these students to its conclusion, the glitch in semester 5 results has disrupted their academic and professional plans. The affected students, who were pursuing education through the distance mode due to their professional commitments, have been left hanging in the balance due to the inexplicable mark of zero in just one subject.

Students have expressed their disbelief and frustration at the university's apparent oversight. "Scoring zero in a subject seems impossible, and we believe there must be an error on the university's behalf," a student remarked, echoing the sentiments of many others. This sentiment was further fueled by the fact that the semester 5 results were declared only days before the final results, leaving them little time to rectify the situation.

The University's administration has acknowledged the issue and has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. "Errors are not uncommon, and we are committed to resolving this matter swiftly and fairly," an official from Mumbai University stated. However, this response hasn't quelled the concerns of the affected students, who find themselves caught in a bureaucratic tangle.

One student lamented, "The delay in semester 5 results has now put our postgraduate aspirations and job opportunities on hold. If only the results had been declared on time, we could have addressed this issue earlier and avoided this predicament." The students have already initiated the process of re-evaluation, but their frustration is evident as they insist on the possibility of an error in the system.

Interestingly, this is not the first instance of result-related turmoil at IDOL. In a parallel scenario, the results of the fourth semester BA course also faced disruptions due to incorrect attendance records. Students were forced to undergo re-examination, causing unnecessary distress. "The university's mishandling of attendance records has created an unnecessary obstacle," commented a student grappling with the aftermath.
