GOA, 3rd July 2026: Goa Institute of Management (GIM) conducted a five-day Academic Leadership Programme (ALP) for college principals of Delhi University. The objective of the programme was to understand the trends in higher education and find ways to improve leadership in educational institutions.

While the higher education sector adapts to the increasing levels of expectation on quality, innovation, and global competitiveness, the programme aims to assist leaders in academia to develop institutional planning and prepare institutions for the future.
The Academic Leadership Programme (ALP) was comprised of sessions conducted by faculty from GIM, the University of Delhi, and the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), and addressed the following topics, which are critical to the future of higher education:
- The role of artificial intelligence in education
- NEP 2020
- Institutional governance
- Digital transformation
- Change management
- Inclusive leadership
- Financial management
- Ethics
- Learner-centred education
While addressing participants, Goa Institute of Management Director, Prof. Ajit Parulekar, remarked:
"It's our responsibility to maintain both our student and faculty quality. Students learn in different ways, and we're realizing that structures must evolve to engage them."
While retaining the educational quality at the core, Prof. Parulekar urged academic leaders to embrace change.
"Skills are a small part of what higher education ought to be about. The goal ought to be the formation of responsible citizens and leaders of the future. The existing problems ought to never place a ceiling on our imagination."
A major aspect of the program was the open discussion amongst principals on different aspects of challenges within higher educational institutions, like dwindling admissions and attendance, the increasing focus and impact of AI in teaching and administration, enhancing student employment, and the constant struggle to get funding for facilities. The Academic Leadership Programme was intended to foster a collaborative environment where academic leaders shared practical ideas and solutions to create and strengthen institutional leadership. With this program, the Goa Institute of Management has continued to invest in creating capacity and institutional development within the framework of the national educational mandates.
