GATE 2026 to Be Conducted by IIT Guwahati; New Section on Energy Science Introduced

Application Process to Begin in Last Week of August 2025; Exam Scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026

New Delhi– The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, a prestigious national-level examination for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Science, Architecture, and Humanities, will be organized by IIT Guwahati on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

GATE 2026 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and will comprise a total of 30 test papers. A significant addition this year is a new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I), introduced under the Engineering Sciences (XE) category. The exam will be conducted exclusively in English.

Candidates can choose to appear for one or two papers from a list of approved two-paper combinations. The GATE score will remain valid for three years from the date of the result announcement.

Successful candidates may become eligible for admission and financial assistance to Master’s, Direct Doctoral, and Doctoral programs in institutions supported by the MoE and other government bodies. Additionally, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other reputed organizations consider GATE scores in their recruitment processes.

The registration portal for GATE 2026 is expected to go live in the last week of August 2025. The exam dates are scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, with forenoon and afternoon sessions on each day.
