G20 Event: JMI organises Extension Lecture on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency

he session was followed by an interesting round of questions and answers.

 

New Delhi : An Extension Lecture was organised by the Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI)  in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI on "Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency" on 27th February, 2023 at the Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering & Technology.

Prof. Mini Thomas and Prof. Hina Zia welcomed the expert Dr. Souvik Bhattachrjya, Associate Director, TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute), a leading think-tank based out of New Delhi. Citing the examples from day to day life Prof. Mini Thomas gave a couple of examples to the students on the traditional frugal nature of Indians and the need to continue with it. Prof. Hina Zia highlighted the need to move from Linear Models of consumption and lifestyles to circular approach. 

Dr. Souvik Bhattarcharjya gave a very engaging lecture to a diverse audience which comprised about 150 students from architecture, planning, design, civil engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and environmental sciences. He emphasised that the circular economy is a systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. He gave examples from diverse sectors like automobiles, electric vehicles, waste management, construction etc. The session was followed by an interesting round of questions and answers.
