Five Srinagar Government Schools Equipped With ICT Computer Labs Under CSR Initiative

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo inaugurated state-of-the-art ICT computer labs across five government schools in Srinagar under a Corporate Social Responsibility drive. Funded by NTT DATA and executed by ELFA International, the initiative aims to enhance digital literacy and provide modern educational software and hardware to public school students.

Five Srinagar Government Schools Equipped With ICT Computer Labs Under CSR Initiative

Five government schools in the Srinagar district have been gifted with new modern Information and Communication Technology computer labs as part of an ongoing drive to promote digital literacy. The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nawakadal. The initiative has been taken under the NTT DATA Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program which has entrusted the ELFA International foundation to revamp the infrastructure of these public institutions.

ICT Labs Provide Access to Digital Literacy

The newly constructed ICT labs aim to provide digital literacy to students of government-run institutions. The five schools that stood to benefit from the initiative are : 

  • Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Nawakadal
  • Govt Boys High School Dara
  • Govt Boys High School Panzinara
  • Govt Boys High School Bakshipor
  • Govt Girls High School Balhama

Each of the five institutions received desktop computers that came pre-installed with modern software, internet access to support easy access to online learning material and audio-visual equipment to facilitate easier presentations by teachers.

Video Conference With Students At Other Campuses

In addition to the inauguration function at the Nawakadal campus, the Deputy Commissioner held a video conferencing session with students and teachers at the four other schools that benefited from the project. He urged the students to take full advantage of the new ICT facilities to develop relevant digital skills and to seek knowledge online to expand their scope of learning. The DC stated that providing free access to computers and online learning resources would encourage more students to attend schools and at the same time improve their overall performance.

Public-Private Partnership Drives CSR Initiatives In Govt Institutions

Speaking on the immense potential of private-public partnership in driving various social initiatives, the Executive Directors of ELFA International and NTT DATA noted that collaborating with private entities enabled them to make meaningful contributions towards expanding knowledge in government-owned institutions. The Chief Executive Officer of the ELFA International, Nawab Mehran Khan described the initiative as a huge opportunity that would facilitate limitless learning for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The district administration acknowledged the tremendous effort of their private partners for supporting the local education system by providing much-needed infrastructure in remote government schools.

Boosts Digital Literacy In The State

The opening of the five ICT-equipped computer labs will play a significant role in promoting digital literacy in the state. School administrators, teachers and parents have praised the initiative for helping them overcome the challenges that come with inadequate ICT infrastructure in most government-run institutions. The district administration has requested these non-profit making organizations to open more computer labs in other government-owned institutions located in the Srinagar region.
