Vardhaman College of Engineering (VCE) to Host Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2025 – Software Edition

Vardhaman College of Engineering, Hyderabad, has been selected as one of India’s 60 nodal centres to host the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 Software Edition Grand Finale. Over 150 students from 11 states will compete on problem statements from the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

Hyderabad, December 2, 2025: Vardhaman College of Engineering (VCE), Shamshabad, has been named one of the 60 nodal centres across India—and one of only five in Telangana—selected to host the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 – Software Edition on December 8–9, 2025.

Regarded as India’s premier student-led innovation movement, SIH is organised by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Being chosen as a nodal centre or problem-statement partner is considered a significant national recognition for academic institutions.

One of the World’s Largest Hackathons

The Smart India Hackathon is among the largest open-innovation hackathons globally, drawing participation from lakhs of students each year. The initiative connects young innovators directly with government ministries, PSUs, state departments and industries, making it one of the most influential platforms in India’s education and innovation ecosystem.

Unlike typical campus hackathons, SIH tasks students with real-world governance challenges, with problem statements submitted by ministries such as Defence, Railways, Agriculture, Health, Education and state governments. This year, the Vardhaman Nodal Centre will host problem statements from the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, including its Higher Education Department and Directorate of Colleges.

151 Students from 11 States to Compete

A total of 151 student innovators from 11 states will participate at the VCE centre, bringing diverse expertise, ideas and cultural perspectives. Their proposed solutions will have immediate implementation potential, with many SIH innovations in previous years being adopted by ministries, funded as prototypes or incubated into startups.

Leaders Speak on Innovation & National Responsibility

Prof. JVR Ravindra, Principal & Nodal Centre Head, expressed pride in hosting the grand finale:
“This recognition reflects Vardhaman’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and real-world problem-solving. We are honoured to support the Ministry of Education’s vision and provide young innovators with a platform to build impactful and scalable solutions for the nation.”

Prof. Krishna Chaithanya Janapati, Nodal Centre SPOC, highlighted the event’s collaborative spirit:
“Smart India Hackathon inspires students to think boldly and innovate meaningfully. With participants from 11 states working on governance-centric problem statements from the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, we expect high-quality prototypes and transformative solutions.”

Driving India’s Innovation and Startup Ecosystem

The SIH 2025 Grand Finale at Vardhaman College of Engineering is expected to be a major milestone, bringing together talented youth, government bodies, academic institutions and industry leaders in a powerful convergence of ideas, creativity and technological innovation.

With solutions that directly influence governance, citizen services and digital transformation, SIH continues to cement itself as a cornerstone of India’s national innovation framework and an unmatched platform for student-driven societal impact.
