New Delhi, : The Federation of Central Universities Teachers' Associations (FEDCUTA) has issued a press statement highlighting the crisis in higher education and demanding the rollback of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The teachers' body has expressed concerns over the centralization of education, the imposition of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the commercialization of education.
FEDCUTA has also demanded the restoration of the old pension scheme, the implementation of reservation policies for SC/ST/OBC/PWD teachers, and an increase in expenditure on education to 6% of the budget.
The teachers' body has criticized the NEP 2020, saying it promotes intolerance and erodes the robust public education system. They have also expressed concerns over the implementation of the National Credit Framework (NcrF) and the institutionalization of CUET for undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. admissions.
FEDCUTA has called for a joint parliamentary committee probe into the nexus between the Ministry of Education, the NTA, and the UGC. They have also demanded the scrapping of the NTA and the establishment of a new body to conduct examinations.
The press statement has been signed by FEDCUTA President, Secretary-General, and other office bearers.
