School authorities in Kathua district have taken a proactive step today on August 11, 2026, after observing severe waterlogging in several places. The Deputy CEO of Kathua has directed concerned authorities to close schools in the districts to prevent any possible damage to the children. As per the official orders, all government and private educational institutes in Zone Malhar will remain closed from tomorrow. In addition to Zone Malhar, schools in the highly impacted areas of Bani, Billawar, and Basholi have also been directed to remain closed for a day. The persistent rain since early morning has made the roads and school premises inaccessible and unsafe for the children. The local administration felt that it would be better to keep the schools closed until the weather condition improves. Parents and teachers have been requested to remain indoors until the situation becomes normal.
Prolonged Rain Disrupts Commuting and Daily Activities in Local Blocks -
The continuous rainfall in Kathua district has brought normal life to a standstill today. The local streams in Bani, Billawar, and Basholi blocks have overflowed, creating chaos on the roads. Several roadways in the aforesaid places have become inaccessible due to waterlogging and mud slips. The local administration in these blocks has witnessed several instances of school buses and other vehicles skidding on the roads. The persistent rain has also caused waterlogging in several school premises and other government buildings. It is pertinent to mention that the authorities in the concerned districts have decided to keep the schools closed for a day to avoid any possible mishap. The decision to keep the schools closed received widespread public support as the local residents felt that the children would not be safe on the roads in such weather.
JKBOSE Announces Relaxation for Outside Board Candidates -
Meanwhile, the J&K Board of School Education has announced a relaxation for the transfer candidates in the UT. The concerned authorities have decided to extend the last date for submission of form by outside board students to register their migration in JKBOSE. The board has received numerous complaints from the transfer candidates regarding portal errors while submitting the documents for migration. In this regard, the authorities have announced alteration in the last date for online registration. The migration registration portal will remain open till August 17, 2026, for the transfer candidates. Hundreds of students have expressed relief after knowing about the new date.
Guidelines for CBSE Transfer Students to Complete Migration Formalities -
The transfer students from CBSE and other education boards need to complete their formalities by August 17, 2026. These students need to visit the JKBOSE website at jkbose.nic.in and navigate to the migration portal. The candidates need to upload the documents like leaving certificate, mark sheet, and migration certificate issued by the concerned outside board. After filling the personal details, students need to complete the payment formalities to finalize their registration. The board has advised the transfer candidates not to leave the registration process till the last day due to possible technical errors. In case of any difficulty while submitting the documents, the students can reach out to the nearest JKBOSE sub-office.
Update Regarding School Opening and Important Guidelines for J&K Candidates -
As regards the update on school opening in Kathua district, the authorities have said that they will take a final call on the reopening of the schools after assessing the road conditions the next day. The schools in Bani, Billawar, Basholi, and Zone Malhar can be reopened if the rain activity ceases and waterlogging recedes. The head of the schools have been asked to conduct a safety audit of the school buildings and other structures before reopening. On the other hand, the candidates applying for migration in JKBOSE should make sure that the personal details provided by them match the information mentioned in their CBSE admit card. Any mismatch in the names or father’s names can cause delay in the issuance of eligibility certificate by the board. It is recommended that all the students and their parents keep a tab on the latest updates issued by the board and local administration.
