New Delhi: The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) successfully hosted the Manthan Shivir in New Delhi on Friday, November 29, 2024. This brainstorming session brought together State Nodal Officers from 22 states to discuss strategies for improving the management and quality of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), which serve tribal students across India.
Chaired by NESTS Commissioner Shri Ajeet Kumar Srivastava, the event focused on enhancing key aspects of the EMRS system, including examination processes, admissions, recruitment, infrastructure development, and financial management. The discussions aimed to transform educational opportunities for tribal students and address challenges faced by EMRSs.
Harnessing Tribal Talent and Expanding Educational Access
During his address, Commissioner Srivastava highlighted the exceptional natural talents of tribal students in areas such as sports, arts, culture, education, and innovation. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to nurture these abilities and enable tribal students to excel in diverse fields.
Providing updates on the EMRS initiative, NESTS revealed that 476 EMRSs are currently operational, with plans to establish over 100 additional schools in the next year. This expansion will improve access to quality education for tribal children in remote and underserved regions.
The Shivir also celebrated the completion of the first phase of recruitment, which added over 9,000 teaching and non-teaching staff to EMRSs. Discussions were held on planning and executing the next recruitment cycle to further strengthen the schools' workforce.
Collaborative Efforts for Holistic Development
State Nodal Officers actively participated in the discussions, offering valuable suggestions to enhance the management of EMRSs and improve the resources available to tribal students. These inputs will shape future strategies to ensure that EMRSs provide world-class education and support for holistic student development.
The Manthan Shivir reaffirmed NESTS' dedication to creating an inclusive and sustainable education system for tribal students, paving the way for their academic, cultural, and personal growth.
