Indian Teacher Rouble Nagi Wins Global Teacher Prize 2026

Indian teacher and social educator Rouble Nagi has won the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2026, carrying a prize of USD 1 million, at the World Government Summit in Dubai. She was honoured for her remarkable contribution to inclusive education through the establishment of over 800 learning centres across India, impacting more than one million children from disadvantaged communities.

Dubai - Indian educator Rouble Nagi was awarded the Global Teacher Prize 2026 at the World Government Summit, recognising her exceptional efforts in transforming grassroots education in India. The award, which carries a prize money of USD 1 million, celebrates teachers who have made outstanding contributions to the profession and society.

Rouble Nagi is the tenth recipient of the prestigious global award, which was launched in 2015. Through the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, she has established more than 800 learning centres across the country. These centres provide structured education to children who have never attended school, while also offering supplementary learning support to those already enrolled. Her innovative approach includes the use of educational murals covering subjects such as literacy, science, mathematics, and history.

Speaking after receiving the award, Nagi said the honour was a matter of pride not only for her but for the entire country. She recalled beginning her journey 24 years ago with just 30 children in a small workshop and noted that her initiatives have now reached over a million learners. She described the achievement as deeply humbling and driven by her lifelong dream of ensuring that every child has access to education.

In a statement released on the Global Teacher Prize website, philanthropist Sunny Varkey praised Rouble Nagi as an outstanding example of teaching excellence, highlighting her courage, creativity, compassion, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child. Nagi has announced plans to utilise the prize money to establish an institution that will provide free vocational training, further extending her mission of empowering underserved communities through education.
