New Delhi: Nearly half of the applications received for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which is being held in two phases throughout July and August, were from eight central universities, two state universities, and two private universities that are primarily located in four north Indian states.

The number of applications received by the centrally-run Delhi University, at 6.63 lakh, is the largest, followed by Banaras Hindu University (4.34 lakh), and the University of Allahabad (2.62 lakh). 90 universities that are using CUET scores for admissions this year have received 58.5 lakh, according to official data from the National Testing Agency (NTA), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education. Only 13 universities received 26.4 lakh of the 58.5 lakh applications. Except for Rajiv Gandhi University, all 13 of the universities are situated in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Apex University in Jaipur (101103), Galgotias University (123534), and IIMT University (168439), both of which are located in Uttar Pradesh, are private universities that have received more than one lakh applications.

The other central universities that have seen a good response are Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia (1.44 lakh), Haryana's Central University (1.09 lakh), Uttarakhand's Hemvati Nandan Bahugana Garhwal University (1.11 lakh), Lucknow's Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (1.8 lakh), and Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh (1.1 lakh) (1.40 lakh).

The two state universities in this group are Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University in Lucknow and Dr. BR Ambedkar University in Delhi, with 1.17 lakh and 1.54 lakh applications, respectively.

In total, 9.9 lakh applicants registered for the NTA admission exam, the results of which will be used by 90 Indian colleges.

The common entry has been adopted by up to 44 central universities, two state government-run universities, 21 private universities, and 13 deemed institutions.

"While 9.9 lakh unique individuals have registered for the test, the number increases to 14 lakhs when the subject combinations they choose are considered because each unique participant will appear in several papers. Up to nine papers may be taken by any candidate, according to a senior NTA official.

There are roughly 54,555 different subject combinations that the candidates have selected. They submitted 58.5 lakh applications overall by paying the common exam fee. This is the advantage of the entrance's single window. Otherwise, applicants would need to submit individual applications to each university and pay individual application costs," the official continued.
