New Delhi - The Jamia Millia Islamia, through its Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (NMCPCR), organised a Special Lecture titled “Ekatma Manav Darshan: A Philosophy of World Peace” on February 3, 2026, at the Indo-Arab Cultural Centre, JMI.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mahesh Chandra Sharma, Former Member of Rajya Sabha and Chairperson of Ekatma Manav Darshan Research and Development Institute. The programme was chaired by Prof. Abuzar Khairi, Officiating Director, NMCPCR. In his address, Dr. Sharma examined the root causes of contemporary conflicts, attributing them to human traits such as greed, anger, ego, and excessive materialism that disrupt peaceful coexistence.
He critically engaged with dominant Western notions of individualism and collectivism, pointing out their limitations in ensuring sustainable peace. Drawing upon Indian philosophical traditions, particularly the thought of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, he elaborated on the concept of Integral Humanism, which views the individual, society, nature, and the divine as interconnected and inseparable.
The lecture also explored the impact of modern nation-state structures on global tensions and contrasted politico-territorial nationalism with geo-cultural nationalism rooted in civilizational continuity. Emphasising dialogue, ethical conduct, and collective well-being over militaristic approaches, the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sudhanshu Trivedi, Faculty and Student Advisor, NMCPCR.
