Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met Australian Education Minister Jason Clare and Skills Minister Andrew Giles to strengthen India–Australia cooperation in education, research, and mobility. UNSW, a top-20 global university, will soon establish a campus in India.

New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today met Jason Clare MP, Australia’s Minister for Education, and Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Skills & Training, during their visit to New Delhi. The meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening the education and skills partnership between India and Australia.

After the meeting, Pradhan shared details through a social media post, expressing delight at interacting with his Australian counterparts. He noted that both sides conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing cooperation in education, innovation, and research, while also discussing ways to further expand bilateral collaboration across the entire spectrum of learning — “from Pre-school to PhD.”

Pradhan emphasized India’s focus on fostering critical thinking among students and preparing an AI-ready generation, highlighting these as national priorities to meet future global challenges.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the India–Australia education partnership, with special focus on:

  • Strengthening collaborations between higher education institutions of both countries
  • Expanding joint research funding in strategically important areas
  • Facilitating smoother pathways for two-way academic and student mobility

Pradhan said he looks forward to further discussions during the 3rd Australia-India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) Meeting, which aims to reshape India’s educational landscape and build brighter prospects for both nations.

UNSW to Set Up Campus in India

In a major development, Pradhan announced that one of Australia’s globally renowned universities — ranked in the top 20 in the QS World University Rankings — is set to establish a campus in India.

On the sidelines of the AIESC, he and Minister Jason Clare jointly handed over the Letter of Intent (LOI) to the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

Pradhan congratulated UNSW and formally welcomed the university to India, calling it a milestone that will unlock new opportunities for students, researchers, and institutions across both countries.

The establishment of UNSW’s campus is expected to significantly enhance access to world-class education in India and further deepen Australia’s academic engagement with the country.
