Chandigarh, 26 March 2023: On Saturday, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh with collaboration of performing arts and media faculty and cultural club observed World Theatre Day with a celebration. The University organized the event to praise World Theatre Day which lies on 27th of March every year.
On this occasion, Malkeet Rauni, a known Punjabi film star was invited as a Chief Guest. Additionally, Dr. Zora Singh (Chancellor), Dr. Tajinder Kaur (Pro – Chancellor), Dr. Harsh Sadawarti (Vice President) of Desh Bhagat University and RJ Sangmitra (Radio Head, 107.8 FM) were welcomed as a special guests.
The center of the whole celebration was to spread “awareness” about the importance of "theatre". One of the official stated that “not only for students, this celebration will act as a wakeup call for governments, politicians, and institutions that have not yet recognized its value”.
Moreover, the celebration rose up many aspects about cinema infront of the students. Malkeet Rauni shared his experiences of films, theatre and few anecdotes from his life. He also added that “cinema and theatre are two different streams and their acting patterns are also different but directly or indirectly it is Interlinked.” Meanwhile Dr. Sadawarti also underlined the significance of World Theatre Day by making students to realize the need, importance and impact of Cinema over lives.
With a felicitation program, the celebration ended up on a good note. Around 200 students witnessed the celebration and several teachers of the university were presented at the moment of celebration.
