New Delhi. : The University of Delhi (DU) has officially reaffirmed that CUET UG 2026 will remain the only pathway for admission to its regular undergraduate programmes. The newly released DU UG Admissions 2026 prospectus confirms that there are no major policy changes this year, particularly regarding subject eligibility criteria.
As per the prospectus, admission to all undergraduate courses across DU colleges will be strictly based on CUET UG 2026 scores. However, this admission process will not apply to students seeking entry through the School of Open Learning (SOL), the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), or foreign national applicants, who follow separate admission procedures.
Class 12 Subject Eligibility Rules Remain Unchanged
Delhi University has clearly stated that applicants must appear in CUET UG subjects corresponding to those studied in Class 12. Candidates will not be eligible for admission to any undergraduate subject they did not study in their qualifying examination, reinforcing DU’s long-standing admission policy.
While the CUET UG framework allows candidates to take exams in subjects outside their Class 12 syllabus, DU has clarified that this flexibility will not be applicable to its undergraduate admissions. DU’s eligibility norms will override general CUET provisions, as universities are permitted to define their own admission criteria under the CUET system.
Subject Equivalence and Syllabus Mapping Guidelines
According to the DU prospectus, if a particular Class 12 subject is not listed directly in the CUET UG subject catalogue, candidates must select a closely related subject or language paper.
For instance, students who studied Biochemistry at the Class 12 level will be required to appear for Biology in CUET UG 2026.
To determine subject equivalence, DU will assess whether there is at least 50% overlap between the Class 12 syllabus and the corresponding CUET UG paper. The final authority on subject equivalence will rest solely with the University of Delhi.
No Change in Subject Combinations
The university has also confirmed that List A and List B subject combinations remain unchanged from the previous admission cycle. Aspirants are strongly advised to review these lists carefully before finalising their CUET UG subject choices.
